Guest post from our friends at YouTern.
If you haven’t yet discovered it, you will… achieving career success can be stressful.
You have job responsibilities, deadlines to meet, office politics and the daily commute to navigate… all the while trying to have a life… going to the gym (sometimes), remembering to pay your rent on time, eating your broccoli like mom said to, oh, and maybe cramming in a relationship with friends and/or a significant other.
Yes, building career success takes time and work. But, it’s way easier than you think – about 80 percent easier, to be precise! In fact, most of what you need to do was summed up by the 20th Century philosopher, Woody Allen, who said:
“I’ve learned one thing. 80 percent of success is showing up. Sometimes it’s easier to hide home in bed. I’ve done both.”
What much of your career competition doesn’t realize (but you’ll now know because you’re reading this post) is most of career success requires absolutely no talent or special ability. You don’t have to have an MBA or an IQ of 5 Zillion to succeed. Anyone can do it!
But most people, for whatever reasons, just don’t put in the basic effort that creates 80 percent of success.
Read this list. Then read it again. Print it and paste it to your bathroom mirror. Tape it on your forehead. Tattoo it on your arm. Whatever it takes for you to follow this list every day, without fail.
10 Career Success Skills That Require Zero Talent
Ok, right… before you go all crazy and say to yourself, “Um, yeah. That’s all Zuck did to build Facebook! Yer an idiot!” Yes, there is still the other 20 percent that does require talent and luck.
But the awesome part is: a large part of your success will be determined by how well you follow these 10 very simple instructions. And the even more awesome part is much of your career competition will be unwilling to put in the effort to consistently do this easy part.
What do you think? Too simple? Am I selling you rainbows and unicorns? Maybe this doesn’t apply to you… and your career? Maybe you’ll choose to hide home in bed.
Or maybe 80 percent of career success really is this simple.
