and serious music popular music is constructed with widgets and individual pieces enticing to the masses jazz swing music bebop Serious music is a well thought out well constructed whole challenging music instrumental not heard on the radio What critics enstill today as being serious is actually inaccessible or hard to engage with standardization it s formulaic if there s a beat and the words match up to the background it s no longer a unique song Culture Industries Max Horkheimer amp Theodor Adorno Written in 1940 s but appears in English in 1972 Basic premise media are givensold by industries 0 they have replaced quotmass culturequot 0 culture is now being sold to us for pro t a purely economic transaction Masses are anesthetized by media formulas how culture operates passive blogging has now removed the uniqueness of opinion and removed importance of magazines 0 Any kind of community or authentic togetherness is lost 0 No more personal channels no more telling each other stories 0 False unity doesn t matter that everyone watches the same show anymore 0 The needs we are meeting are false ignoring real needs 0 The culture industries serve advertisers not us Real needs community and fellowship traded for fashion and glamour and fame Authentic needs are not a concern Exit through the giftshop Review Leavis Good culture speaks truth Adorno thinks good culture is
