What are the 2 ways (methods) to manage change in the workplace?  Productivity – scanning, anticipating, and planning  Reactivity – dealing with whatever comes as it comes 2. List and briefly discuss the External forces of change in a workplace.  Outside managements control o Technological changes – one of the most rapidly changing o Market changes o Competitive changes – new people coming in/old people leaving o Work force changes – e.g., diversity, age change 3. List and briefly describe the Internal forces of change in a workplace.  Driven by yourself through the quality/continuous improvement o Re-invention o Re-engineering o Re-changing 4. List and briefly discuss the roles needing to be performed in the change process.  Change champion – visionary leader  Change sponsors – highly placed individual  Change agent – middle manager/consultant who operationalizes change  Change target – person or group that has to change 5. What important elements, issues and/or circumstances must be communicated to the workforce to effectively manage change, and why?  6. List and briefly discuss the 4 steps in the change process.  Plan – plan for change, prepare your team and come up with a vision statement  Do – get your team going, convince your team that change is a positive thing  Check – monitor the change by making sure changes don’t slip back into old ways  Act – continuous improvement, make change better 7. List and briefly discuss the Ethical values important in a business.  Trustworthiness – honesty, integrity, reliability  Respect – civility, decency, tolerance, Golden Rule  Responsibility – accountability, self-controlled, diligent  Fairness – balanced, non-prejudicial attitudes, unselfish  Caring – concerned about the welfare of others  Citizenship – law abiding, environmentally conscious, community participant 10. Which 2 or 3 of the Ethical tests discussed in class do you feel is the most important, and why?  Am I being honest? With myself? With others? – If you aren’t honest with yourself or others then you wont make the right choice in what to do.  Would I be willing to tell everyone about it? – If you’re embarrassed about a decision and unable to tell people then you know it’s wrong.
