Sydney Clark Professor Diedre Greene Rel A 121 The Book of Mormon Scripture of Tender Mercies Real World Relation  1 Nephi 1:20  “Because of their faith, to make them  mighty.” The lord has pushed me  through trials that have made me  stronger.   1 Nephi 2: 4  It astonishes me that Nephi and his  family were willing to give up all their earthly possessions for these plates. I  was recently engaged and gave up my  future in Louisiana for the hope of a  better future here in Utah, and I have  definitely seen a light.  1 Nephi 2:14  “Being filled with the spirit until their  frames did shake.” Today I was  doubtful and against all adversity  pushing against me I kneeled and felt  such a powerful spirit over me I was  practically shaking with a temperature that was indescribable.  1 Nephi 2:21  This verse gives me hope that those  who have hurt me or others will soon  get their share.  1 Nephi 3: 7  I have witnessed NUMEROUS tender  mercies when I go upon a simple act  of a feeling or commandment by the  lord. I had a feeling to bring cookies  to random apartments and got told that through this simple act I had made  them feel loved and thought of. That  alone is enough to save someone.  1 Nephi 7:5  “The lord did soften the heart.” My  father had fallen away from the church and it shook my testimony. I would  pray every night and there was one  morning he woke up to go to church  and his activity started to grow more  and more. I know the lord works in  mysterious way and found the perfect  way to soften his heart.  1 Nephi 1113  How can we forget what the lord has  done for us? I often find myself  forgetting and I get a quick, violent  slap in the face. He created the tender  mercies and loving world we live in  today. HE DID THAT! On his own.  That’s all you need to remember.  1 Nephi 7: 17  I know the lord hears my prayer. The  balance of college and life has been  difficult for me, and I have been  tempted to give up on many  occasions, but as I fall to the ground  on my knees I see the little things he  gives me that makes a huge  difference. He has guided me to and  through the right path on multiple  occasions.   1 Nephi 7:21  “frankly forgive them.” This is  probably the hardest commandment  for me. I am stubborn and enjoy being right but I have made and mended SO  many friendships through the power  of forgiveness.  1 Nephi 8:21  “Pressing forward.” I was recently  hiking early in the morning and I felt  an almost unbearable pain as I was  ascending. The pain was relentless but I was prideful and determined to reach the top. I started to look at the  positives to distract me and the tender  mercies like the breeze kept me to  press forward.   1 Nephi 10: 8  “Prepare ye the way of the lord.” He is mightier and knows more than we do.  I have come across multiple resources  to prepare for a mission I did not even  know I was going to serve.  1 Nephi 10:17  The holy ghost is the hugest tender  mercy the lord has provided for us. It  is the key guidance tool to guide us  back to the celestial kingdom.  1 Nephi 10:1819  A simple thing that is great is that no  matter how much the world around us  changes and evolves, God and God’s  law will never change.   1 Nephi 12: 11  We will always have the chance to  make our garments white as snow  again no matter what we do.  1 Nephi 13  I love how this whole future talks  about the future. I feel like we read the book of Mormon to learn about the  past but God knew what was going to  happen in the future. He knows what  is going to be in your future and that is a tender mercy in itself.  1 Nephi 14: 7  The word “everlasting” stands out to  me because it accents that his word is  everlasting/eternal/unchanging.   1 Nephi 14: 29  Seeing the things which our father saw is similar to a patriarchal blessing  which I find the best mercy given to  us yet. It is a literal conversation with  god about your future.  1 Nephi 15:8  My mom always asked me this  question because I was such a  stubborn child and wanted to do  everything by myself but prayer is the  direct communication we have to God. We talk to God through prayer and he  talks to us through the Scriptures.   1 Nephi 16: 10 & 16  I feel like this guiding ball would be  so helpful in many worldly cases  today, but in a way we have  something just like it, just less  physical. We have prayer, scriptures,  and the holy ghost and so many more  blessings that impact our life so much.  1 Nephi 17: 15  As active missionaries we can be that  light in someone’s day and keep them  on the straight and narrow. I feel like  this is our blessing to the Lord for his  blessings.  1 Nephi 17: 39  It is crazy to think how small we are  in the world compared to God. This  life that we are living is just a moment compared to eternity. Thank goodness.  1 Nephi 19: 11  A huge tender mercy in today’s world  is the prophet.  
