Chapter 9 Quiz Notes      The high cost of some medical treatments, such as dialysis, shown here, has led to the issue of  rationing medical care. (Picture, 299)     Younger people = cared for by personnel  Elder people = are pushed on (not as much care given because of death rising unlike younger  people)    Dialysis­ treatment to flush out all toxins from the blood stream in the kidneys to reduce kidney  disease build up.    According to Great Britain act they only treat the more critical patience because otherwise it will  put the hospital in debt. Dialysis­ is currently available to anyone, but cost runs several billion  dollars a year.     National medical bill runs more than $2 trillion a year. Medical technology including new drugs,  continues to advance­­­and to be costly. (granted everyone wants the up to date treatment)     Two aspects of modern medical care that create dilemma? Limited resources/space for  patience’s and limited education (knowledge from doctors)  Who need’s the most medical care? Elderly people  Ration medical treatment? People will die  Do NOT ration medical treatment? Future debt for generations       Vocab  Distills­ extract the essential meaning of; summarize  Bankrupt­ make unable to pay one’s debt  Rationed­ limited to certain amount  Assessments­ evaluations  Haunt­ are persistently disturbing present
