About this Document

These notes are from the debate we needed to watch for the assignment. Obviously some of the notes may be my opinion, but the rest is what the candidates said.

Monday, September 26, 2016 Debate Notes for Assignment - ACHIEVING PROSPERITY: 1/2 americans are leaving paycheck to paycheck - Trump during the first segment was not even answering the questions. Lester Holt was asking the same question in a different way and the question was still going unanswered then when Hilary speaks, he keeps making faces and interrupting Hilary when she is speaking but she has not once interrupted him. Hilary: Political: Has not gone against president Obama or any other politician other than for Trump. “Obama is a man of great dignity” Economic: build an economy that works for everyone, new jobs with rising incomes, technology, small business, raising minimum wage, equal pay for women’s work, support people who are balancing work and families, paid family leave, earned sick leave, debt free college, wealthy pay their fair share, trade is an important issue, tax system that rewards work and not just financial transaction, we need to invest in the middle class Social: wants to get guns out of the hands of people who should not have them in order to protect African Americans and young Americans Policy: wants more second chance programs, don't need to fill prison cells with young americans. Common sense gun safety measures would benefit us. Too many military type weapons. Background checks. Pass a prohibition on a terrorist watch list. Trump: Political: Brought up a lot about Bill Clinton and how some of his policies were the worst ones yet and talks about how he doesn't like Obama. Was very concerned with Obama’s birth certificate. Economic: agrees with Hilary with childcare, stop from having jobs being stolen, stop companies leaving the US, reducing taxes 35% to 15%, Social: take guns away from people who should not have guns. Need more police and need better community relations Policy: stop and frisk. It was also ruled as unconstitutional because it singles out african american and hispanic individuals. 1
