HSA 525 – Health Financial Management COURSE DESCRIPTION  This course will provide students with theory, tools, and practical experience in health care financial  management. It examines payment sources and reimbursement arrangements, the public and private  financing of health care service organizations from both a theoretical and practical perspective, and  emerging trends in the health care industry that affect financial decision making. Topics of study include  capital and debt financing, capital structure, financial planning, operating revenue, working capital,  resource allocation, and financial analysis of the industry. A case study method will be used to provide the student with the opportunity to analyze a working health care organization. Describe the overall planning process and the key components of the financial plan. 3. Demonstrate a competence in making financial decisions using net present value, pertinent  financial ratios, and break­even analysis. 5. Compute liquidity, solvency, and profitability ratios and explain the role of each ratio in financial  decision making. 6. Examine the complexity of cost behaviors and break­even analysis in health care organizations  and describe how costs are classified according to their relationship with volume. 7. Explain cost­setting methods and demonstrate how cost setting affects the revenue cycle. 8. Apply the principles of financial planning, management, and budgeting in the health care  organization.  9. Calculate inventory turnover and conduct inventory analysis. 10. Examine the role of data when making financial decisions in the health care industry. 11. Evaluate the sources of health care revenue. 12. Use technology and information resources to research issues in health financial management. 13.
