The goddess not ashamed to cheat also all offer him a bribe: ● Hera offers him to be the king of all Asia ● Athena offers to make him the best warrior's ● Aphrodite offers to let him have sex with the most beautiful woman in the world, Helen. He takes Aphrodite's bribe.Hera and Athena are angry and vow revenge.Paris goes to Sparta, Helen falls for him and they run of together. This starts the war. Achilles, flawed hero ● Son of Thetis and Peleus ● Greatest of the warriors ● Passionate in love and emotion; deeply sensitive and doesn't take insult easily When he is just a baby Thetis is said to dunk him in the River Styx holding him by his hill leaving it his only vulnerable spot. She is very protective and doesn't want him to go to war.Thetis takes him to Chiron to be taught .Later, while he is still a boy he is joined by Patroclus. Chiron Instructs them in weaponry, survival, and the Lyre. When he finished his training Thetis hides him away again in Skyros and disguises him as a girl. Odysseus goes to Skyros since the Greeks the need Achilles because he is said to be a great warrior. Odysseus has a plan to find him he knows if sounds the trumpet the women will be scared and Achilles will react differently. He blows it and Achilles jumps up with his weapon revealing himself. They convince him to leave with them with the best promise he will marry Iphigenia, Achilles goes with them and is insulted to find out Iphigenia was killed before he can marry her. The City of Troy Was it real? Yes, but the story of the Trojan War was embellished War facts Earliest source is Homer’s Iliad, written some 500 years after the war took place Takes 10 years to unfold Homer's account makes the first 9 years much less important than the last: up until the 10th year the Greeks suffer terrible losses War finally won by a trick Arrival to Asia More strikes against the Greeks Agamennone desecrates Apollo’s Temple and take his priestess as a slave. Apollo in revenge kills the livestock of the Greeks and sides with Troy. The Greek priest tell him he must give up the priestess and Agamemnon does but, he wants Achilles slave girl, who was also taken from Apollo's temple but was not a priestess. He tells his messenger to get her and Achilles is angry but gives her up. He is embarrassed and also angry because he's in love with her. He goes to fight Agamemnon and Athena has to go to stop him. She stops him but this is the last straw for him and he quits the wars. Thetis goes to Zeus for help. She wants him to help the Trojans and after the Greece suffered many tragedies he would help the Greeks. Helen and Paris Helen begins to regret running away with Paris because he has no strength or honor. She also feels like a home wrecker and ashamed because her in Paris are not married. Hector who is the opposite of Paris argues with Paris trying to get him to man up. However Paris doesn't listen. Menelaus calls a truce and he wants to meet Paris alone on the battlefield. The fight and Menelaus is getting ready to kill Paris when Aphrodite picks him up and puts him back in Helen's bed. Helen is angry and tells him to fight Menelaus but Paris only wants to make love. She asks Aphrodite could she at least marry her and Paris and she says no. Helen complains to hector but he can't really do anything and leaves her by herself. Hector in the War Hector bid farewell to his wife Andromache who begs him not to go after a series of nightmares she had of his death. Hector tells he has to go and he will fight to the death if he has to before she becomes a slave. Patroclus The Greeks are suffering and they try to bribe Achilles to reenter the war; but he refuses. Patroclus begs to fight in his stead. ● Patroclus is Achilles lover and the only person who could deal with him. Achilles keeps him out of the war but relents and allows him to fight. Patroclus enters the war wearing Achilles armor and he is a great fighter. He kills Sarpedon Zeus son. Before he was killed Zeus was going to save Sarpedon but Hera stops him telling him he helped the Trojans enough.Apollo comes down and slaps Patroclus and knocks him to the ground and Hector kills him. Achilles reenters the War Achilles mourns Patroclus intensely and his men are afraid he will kill himself. Thetis hears his cries of despair and goes to comfort him. Achilles wants to kill Hector and his mother tells him that if Hector dies he dies but he joins the fight anyway. Thetis gives him new armor and Achilles enters the war motivated by revenge and becomes a killing mission. Achilles vs Scamandros He kills so many the Scamander river becomes red with blood. The river God Scamandros challenges him to a fight. They fight and it seems as though Achilles will be drowned when Athena and Hera step in. Athena makes it so Achilles can run fast and Hera order Hephaestus to drain the river causing Scamandros to relent. Achilles chases Hector Achilles keeps chasing Hector and Hector tries to reason with Achilles but he doesn't relent. Athena comes to Hector disguised as his brother to make him think he has help. Achilles corners Hector and kills him the Greeks strip and Desecrated Hector's body. Achilles also takes back his armor and ties Hector's body on the back of his chariot. The Funeral of Patroclus A big funeral is held for him Achilles also holds a series of competitions in Patroclus’s honor. Marvelous prizes are offered, and both the commanders and the soldiers compete. The events include boxing, wrestling, archery, and a chariot races . ● Before Patroclus had died he asked to never be apart from Achilles in death Achilles continues to abuse Hector’s body, dragging it around. Apollo protects Hector’s corpse from rotting Zeus puts a stop of the desecration of Hector's body and tells Thetis her son must ransom the body. Achilles agrees but before he can Hector's father king Priam begs Achilles to give him his son. Achilles is moved and instead of ransoming Hector's body he gives him back to his father. The Funeral of Hector Andromache mourns Hector and Homer's story ends here The Fight continues The Amazons, warrior women enter the fight as allies to the Trojans. After Hector's funeral Achilles continues to fight and kills the Amazon queen. He catches her before she dies and he feels great pity ● Amazon means without a breast because the women were said to cut of one their breast to hold their bow The Death of Achilles Paris catches Achilles off guard and shoots him in the heel Greeks bid him farewell ● 17 days of mourning; contest/ games in his honor ● Nereids come along with the muses ● And Achilles and Patroclus ashes or mixed together ○ Alexander the Great is said to even visit the temple There are many events that are held at the funeral. One of the events that happen is a contest of bravery and the prize is his Achilles armor. The winner is Odysseus and the second place winner is Ajax the greater. Ajax is so ashamed at taking second place he plants his sword in the ground and plunges himself upon it committing suicide. Fighting continues The Greeks capture a Trojan prophet and deserter; he tells them how to advance in the war. ● Bring Neoptolemus into the war ● Bring Philoctetes into the war ● Steal the Palladium Neoptolemus The son of Achilles who he fathered when he was disguised as a girl. Philtolelemus was abandoned on Lemnos; ● Bit by snake and it wound stunks so the greeks left him there He is brought back into the war and kills many trojans wit his poisoned arrows ● Pointed arrows dipped with hydra blood Philoctetes kills Paris and Neoptolemus kills Priam Odysseus and Diomedes steal the Palladium the statue of Pallas made by Athena. The prophet tells them they must take it back to Greece The Trojan Horse Odysseus comes up with trick to fool the Trojans into believing the Greeks have given up. The fill it with their best fighters and the rest of the Greeks Laocoon and his sons are killed by the sea serpents after warning the Trojans. The Trojans think Laocoon is just cursed and don't believe him. The Greeks take it inside and have a big festival thinking they won. The Greeks even throw Hector's son Astyanax is thrown from the walls of Troy so the line will be wiped out. Cassandra the Prophet no one believes take refuge at altar of Athena and Ajax the lesser finds her ties her up and rapes. Ajax is punished for raping Cassandra in her temple. She steals one of Zeus thunderbolt and tries to kill him on but he escapes and defies her so she makes Poseidon drown him Trojan War wrap up Trojans Of the Trojan man only Aeneas(Son of Aphrodite) and Anchises( human lover of Aphrodite) escape ● Aeneas who fought with Trojans escapes carrying the aging Anchises to safety with the help of Aphrodite and Troy is burned down. The women are enslaved; Cassandra is killed upon her arrival to Greece Greeks ● Achilles, Patroclus, and the two Ajaxes are killed ● Agamemnon, murdered upon return ● Nestor, Menelaus, Neoptolemus, Diomedes return safely ● Odysseus 10 year trip home forms the basis of Homer's Odyssey What happened to Helen? All the women want Helen killed and Helen begs Menelaus for her life. He decides to spare her and keep her as his wife and they rule in Sparta Key players Odysseus king of Ithaca ( Returns home after 20 years) Penelope queen of Ithaca Telemachus Odysseus and Penelope's sin Athena Odysseus helper and Poseidon is his enemy And many other Divine beings including witches and monsters Stop 1 ● Odysseus arrived at the land of the Lotuseaters. ● The lotus was addictive and once someone eats eat the want for nothing else ● Some of the men eat it and Odysseus has to drag them back to the ships Stop 2 ● The men arrive at the island of the Cyclopes, sons of poseidon ● The Cyclopes don't honor the Guest host relationship because they eat their guest ● The arrive on the island looking for provision and they wind up getting trapped in the cave of Polyphemus after stealing his food. He rolls a huge stone over the entrance to keep them there. Odysseus is clever and tells Polyphemus that brought I'm the gift of wine. Polyphemus gets drunk and falls asleep and the men want to kill him but tells them they need him to open the cave. he eats some of Greeks and traps some of Odysseus man They escape but odesyus can't help but brag and yells to Polyphemus that it was he who stabbed him. This is a mistake because Polyphemus curses Odysseus asking his father poseidon to get them Stop 3 ● the Island of Aeolus, keeper of the winds. The king honors the Guest host relationship and when they live the king gives Odysseus a bag o winds. Aeolus teaches him how to use and tells him not to show his men. Stop 4 ● The island of the laestrygonians they are a race of Giants that eat travelers. Odysseus stays on the ship while the men scout the area. The scouts are eaten and the laestrygonians Stop 5 Island of the witch Circe. ● Circe Daughter of Helios ● The Greek word for Witchcraft is Pharmakeia, Pharmacy comes from this word. Like before he stays on the ship while his men scout the area. Circe ends up turning the men into pigs. Odysseus alone and curious to know where his men are so he goes to find them. Hermes stops him and tells him to eat a herb that will stop him from turning into a pig which will catch the witch of guard. He confronts her and does not succumb to her spell. He doesn't do anything to her but make her submit to him. She changes his men back and befriend them. Odysseus and his men end up staying there for a year. ● When it time to go she warns them about dangers to come and how he must seek the advice of Tiresias in the underworld and in order to speak to Tiresias he must give him blood. Stop 6 Trip to the underworld ● He sacrifices a lamb to Tiresias who tells him when he reaches the island of Helios don't let his man eat the sheep and cattle don't eat because if they do he may get home but his men won't In the underworld he encounters some of his old friends like Ajax who refuses to talk to him and his mother who dies from grief waiting for him Stop 7 The Island of the sirens Circe warns him that when they pass the island he not to listen to the sirens who will eat him. ● Odysseus want to hear them and makes his men tie him up and put beeswax in their ear so they won't hear them. The sirens sing and odysseus is driven mad by their singing and want to go to them but his men keep him tied up and row past the sirens not hearing the song. Stop 8 Scylla and Charybdis The next beast Circe warns they will encounter is Scylla a six headed sea monster and a whirlpool with teeth Charybdis ● Odysseus sails through Scylla cave and sacrifices six of his men to her Stop 9 ● Finally the end up at the island of Helios and odysseus men disobey Tiresias warning and eat some of the cows. When they leave the island Helios complains to Zeus and Zeus strikes the boat killing everyone but Odysseus. ● Stop 10 ● Odysseus next ends up encountering the sea nymph Calypso and stays with her. After seven years with her he wants to leave. However Calypso won't let him. Hermes has to go to make her give Odysseus up. He sets off on a raft but Poseidon steps end and wrecks his raft and is almost about to drown him when Athena steps in breathing air back into his lungs. He ends up at the island of the Phaeacians. Last stop He encounters the Phaeacian princess naked and the Phaeacians honor the Guest host relationship. He tells them his story and the Phaeacians help him get back home after he has been missing for 19 years. Meanwhile in Ithaca Penelope has not given up on her husband Odysseus but she has 100 suitors trying to convince her odysseus is gone. She put them of telling them once she finishes a cloth for a funeral she will choose a suitor,but she unwinds it every night. Athena also helps her by making her more and more beautiful each day so her suitors are more susceptible to her. ● Telemachus is distraught because these man are tearing up his father's house and are taking advantage of the guest host relationship. As well they are also planning to kill him when they become king. He prays to Athena and she comes to him disguised as a soldier. She tells him his father is alive and gives him courage.She layers tells him she gave him courage and tells him to go to Sparta. He goes and visit king and queen Helen who tell him of all the great things his father did. Penelope has another plan to put off her suitors by holding a contest. The rules are the suitors must strung Odysseus bow and shoot it through twelve axes. However only Odysseus knows how to string the bow. Odysseus returns Home Finally the Phaeacians return him home but Poseidon is angry and as soon as Odysseus gets off the boat poseidon turns the boat to stone and sinks them. Athena fills him on on what happened and turns him into an old beggar to see what going on. ● As an old man he is found by his dog Argus who recognizes him but dies soon after from neglect he faced. Disguised he heads home and an old servant lets him in and offers to wash his feet. As she washes them she sees an old scar only Odysseus has and recognizes him but he stifles her before she can spill the beans. They formulate a plan and he stays hidden with a swine herd until Athena gives word it is time to attack. Athena lifts his disguise and reunites him with his son Telemachus and Odysseus tells him he'll need his help to take back the throne. The trail of the bow The contest begins and none of the man are able to string the bow. Odysseus is back in his disguise and he tells the old secant to make sure the doors are locked and that weapons are unavailable to the suitors. Odysseus ask can he participate and he of course wins. Athena, Odysseus, and Telemachus slaughter the suitors. The servants who had become the lovers of the suitors are forced to clean the bodies and are hanged after for being traitors. Penelope is grateful but not convinced this is her husband. So she tells Odysseus she will put their bed outside for him. However the bed was built around the trunk of a deeprooted olive tree and could never be moved. Odysseus points this out to get and she is finally convinced this is her husband. ● Penelope and odysseus talk all night . So Zeus tells Apollo and Helios to hold off and make the night longer, so they can consummate their relationship. Key Players in the Perseus Myth: King of Argos Danae, princess of Argos Perseus, son of Zeus and Danae Dictys, Fisherman on Seriphos Polydectes, King of Seriphos, Dictys brother Graeae, sisters of the Gorgons Medusa and the Gorgons Cassiopeia, queen of Phoenicia Andromeda , princess of Phoenicia Perseus and the legend of Argos ● Argos is said to be notoriously dry because poseidon dries the rivers after losing Argos to Athena. Acrisius was a king, who had a daughter named Danae. The Pythia told Acrisius that there would come a day when Danae's son would kill him; so he locked Danae up so that she would never marry or have children. Zeus sees Danae one day and drizzles into her room in a shower of gold and impregnates her. She keeps the pregnancy a secret and Perseus is born. Her father discovers the baby and he locks Danae and baby Perseus in a large chest and cast them out to sea. Somehow, they managed to arrive safely to the island of Seriphos, where Polydectes rules. The king's brother, Dictys, who was a fisherman, pulls the chest to shore and frees Danae and her son. Perseus grew up to become a strong young man. The years pass.... The king of Seriphos sets his sights on Danae.... Perseus tries to protect her.... The king schemes to get rid of Perseus..... Polydectes heard about Danae and asked her in marriage, but she rejected him. The king can't force her to marry him because of Perseus so he creates a plan to get rid of him. Polydectes tells everyone they must make a tribute to him, including Perseus. However, Perseus, being poor, had not brought anything, and Polydectes pretends to be furious. After a heated discussion, Perseus says he would bring him anything the king would ask; so Polydectes asked for the head of the Gorgon Medusa. Perseus is forced to accept the King's order. Athena and Hermes help providing him with winged sandals, reflective shield, and a helmet belonging to hades that will turn him invisible. Zeus also gives him a sword. They tell this is all the help they can give and tell him to seek help from the Graeae ● 3 wise women who share one eye and tooth. They are known to eat the people who go to them for advice So he sneaks up on them and takes their eye. To get it back they tell him what he needs to no. They tell him medusa is in Africa but he first must seek Hesperides, the daughters of Hesperus ● Hesperus, God of the evening star The garden of Hesperides This is Hera’s garden. The Hesperides guard Hera's golden apples along with a giant snake. ● Hera was given the apple as a wedding gift from Ge ● The girls give him a special bag called a kibisis to contain the head of medusa Perseus vs Medusa He confronts medusa and kills her slicing her neck open. She is pregnant at this time and ends up giving birth to Pegasus and Chryraon ● Chryraon:Not a monster but gives birth to a monster As Perseus flies home medusa blood is said to drip in the Sahara creating all the poisonous creatures their. Atlas and Perseus On his way back to Seriphus Perseus encounters Atlas who is unkind to him so Perseus uses medusa's head to turn him into stone. Later on, he sees a woman chained to a rock, named Andromeda. she was chained as a sacrifice to a sea monster sent by poseidon, because her mother boasted that she was more beautiful than the Nereids. To save her Perseus kills the monster, takes Andromeda as his wife and continues on to Seriphus On the way they stopped at Larisa, Perseus could compete in some games that were held at that time; however, when he threw a discus, it hit an old man who instantly died. The man was Acrisius and therefore, the prophecy became true; after mourning, Perseus and Andromeda set off again. When they arrived at Seriphos Perseus finds out Polydectes plan to marry his mother and turns Polydectes to stone with Medusa's head. He also makes the fishermen king ● Perseus gives the head to Athena and she uses it as her aegis Key players in the Bellerophon Myth: Bellerophon, prince of Corinth Stheneboea, queen of Tiryns King of Lycia, Stheneboea’s father Athena. Bellerophon’s protector Pegasus Chimera Bellerophon goes to the tirynian court t because he killed a relative committing blood guilt. ● Two beings can Purify blood guilt a king or a God. While at the court Bellerophon rebuffs the sexual advances of the queen. Angered at the rejection, she tells her husband it was an attempted rape and the king planes revenge. He tells Bellerophon to deliver a letter to another king in Xanthos. ● Xanthos is the Greek word for yellow or blond. The river surround the city was said to be yellowish because of the yellow pigment in the autumn leaves. Athena ask Poseidon for a favor and ask him to give Pegasus to Bellerophon. Bellerophon is at first afraid but Athena tames Pegasus. He rides Pegasus to Xanthos and gives the letter to the king. The letters states Bellerophon raped his daughter and to kill him. The king wants to but has to honor the Guest Host relationship so he tells Bellerophon He must fight a Chimera. The Chimera is half lion,goat, and serpent . They battle and Bellerophon defeats the Chimera. The king is shocked but rewards Bellerophon he gives him a pieces of his kingdom and his other daughter as a wife. Over time he becomes cocky and decides he wants to get even with Stheneboea The Hubris of Bellerophon ● Wanting to get revenge on Stheneboea he offers her a ride on Pegasus,but when they reach the sky he throws her off and kills her ● He also tries to fly pegasus to Olympus. Zeus bugs to sting Pegasus and he bucked off of Pegasus Mythology of Herakles Roman name Hercules Key Players (descendants of Perseus) Electryon, king of Mycenae, father of Alcmena Amphitryon, king’s brother, husband of Alcmena Alcmena, princess of Mycenae, mother of Herakles and Iphicles Iphicles, Herakles twin Ally: Athena and Zeus(dad) Enemies: Hera, Eurystheus, Centaur Nessus Wives: Megara, Deianira, Hebe Loves: Iole, Omphale(girls); Hylas, Abderus(boys) Herakles was the son of the a Zeus and the mortal woman Alcmene. Zeus made love to her disguised as her husband, Amphitryon. Amphitryon returns later the same night, and Alcmene became pregnant with his son Iphicles. On the night the twins Herakles and Iphicles were to be born, Hera, knowing of her husband Zeus' adultery, persuaded Zeus to swear an oath that the child born that night would be destined for greatness. Hera had planned for Eurystheus to be that child.Once the oath was sworn, Hera halted Alcmena’s birth. Hera also caused Eurystheus to be born prematurely, making him King in place of Heracles. Alcmene then is allowed to give birth to Heracles and Iphicles. When Herakles is born Zeus gets back at Hera by taking Herakles and allowing him to suck the milk from Hera tit while she sleeping. When she wakes up she throws him off and hates him even more. ● The milk from her breast created the Milky Way Hera angry sent two giant snakes into his bed as a baby but, grabs the snakes in each hand and strangles them. Hera still vengeful drives him into madness and makes him kill his wife and children. The king purifies him of blood guilt but, he still feels guilty and goes to the Pythia. The Pythia tells him he must serve. Herakles believes it not knowing the Pythia was threatened by Hera to tell him this. King Eurystheus, in cahoots with Hera, imposes the 12 Labors, in attempt to get rid of Herakles ● In Greek these Labors are known as the Athloi Labors of Herakles Labor 1: Nemean Lion. Herakles has to kill it so he makes a club Hey two symbols: Club and lion skin Labor 2: Lernaean Hydra His brother joins him this labor by cauterizing the necks. Until there is only immortal head but before he can Hera sends a giant crab to kill his brother. He kill the crab then kills the hydra by. He then dips his arrows into the hydra's blood The crab becomes the sign of cancer Labor 3: Ceryneian Deer. The dear is not dangerous but extremely fast belongs to Artemis and the king tells him to bring it back unharmed. When he captures it after 3 year Artemis appears to him Labor 4 Erymanthian Boar. he is ordered to be brought back live Side trip: Herakles fights the centaurs. When he spends time with a with a group that open a bottle of wine for him. ● Chiron tries to help him but he is accidentally wounded by a poisoned arrows. In honor of The death of Abderus the city of Abderus is named after him Zeus in revenge fed Diomedes to his own horses Side trip: on the way back to a man invites him to his house. The man wife is on the brink of death and when Thanatos comes to claim her Herakles fights him and wins. This saves the man's wife. Labor 9: The Girdle of Hippolyta. Herakles has to get this The Greeks were said to really have this girdle Labor 10: The cattle of Triple man Geryon( Grandson of Medusa and son of Chryraon). Herakles has to capture Geryon thousands of cattle. Herakles clubs Geryon to death and herds his cattle into a boat to go back to Side trip Encounters a fire breathing cannibal, Cacus, son of Hephaestus. Cacus steals some of the cattle and Herakles has to defeat him. Herakles suffocates Cacus until his eyes pop out. Finally he makes it to and Eurythmics dedicates the cows to Hera. Labor 11: The Golden apples of the Hesperides. Eurythmics want some of Heras apples for himself and orders Herakles to get them. Herakles doesn't know where they are so he has to catch neries to find the location. Once he reaches The Hesperides his kills the snake. Side trip ● Herakles needs help and ask Atlas can he help him. Atlas tells him ● Herakles encounters Prometheus and he helps Herakles. Prometheus was a Titan that was punished by Zeus but Zeus allows Herakles to free Prometheus ● Herakles encounters Antaeus. Antaeus is the son of Ge and Poseidon. He is also a known serial killers and said to build a temple of bones to his father. Labor 12: Herakles is ordered by Eurystheus to capture Cerberus and take him back to the court of Eurystheus. Athena invisible helps him with this labor as well. He labors are done and he is released from Eurystheus court. Other events after labors Herakles and the Cercopes The Cercopes are mischievous creatures that like to play trick. One day they encounter Herakles and play a trick on him but Herakle punished them by tying them to a shoulder pole he slung over his shoulder with their faces pointing downwards. The sight of Heracles' darktanned butt set them both to laughing; when Heracles demanded to know what they were laughing at and they told him, he joined them in their laughter and let them go. Zeus annoyed by their jokes turns them into apes Herakles and Hylad Jason and the Argonauts set sail with Herakles and Hylad. Hylad is sent to get water and is captured by Naiads entranced by his handsomeness. Herakles doesn't want to leave but Jason says the have to go Herakles and Deianira While Herakles is in the underworld he meets an old friend who ask him to take care of his sister Deianira. Herakles goes to Deianira to ask for her hand but a River god named Achelous want her as well. They fight for her but Herakles breaks off Achelous horn. Achelous stops the fight and demands it back, but Herakles will only give it back if he gives up on Deianira so Achelous does. On the way back the come near a river and encounters a centaur named Nessus who offers to take Deianira across the river. When Nessus has her he tries to run away with her but Herakles shoots him with his poisoned arrows. Before he dies he tells Deianira that his blood is a love potion and that if Herakles ever strays she should give it to him and she takes some. Years later A archery contest is going on for a princess named Iole. He wins but the king does not give him his daughter as his bride. Angry and humiliation he goes home but he later encounters Iole brother and kills him. Herakles regrets killing him and goes to the Pythia who tells him he must be a slave again. Herakles is punished by being put back as a slave to a woman named Omphale, the queen of Lydia. He is made to dress as a woman and do women's work. This last for a year. After his service to Omphale ends he is still angry that he didn't get Iole as a wife. He heads to the kingdom she's in kills her father and takes her as his wife. Before he heads home, Deianira takes his cloak and doses it either the “love potion”. When Herakles returns home and puts on the cloak it burns him on fire. Zeus thinks he has suffered enough and he is allowed to die but he turns him into a god. He is admitted to Olympus and given Hebe as his immortal wife.
