A test a week is not fun but it helps you learn and you'll thank your hard work throughout the quarter by the time the final rolls around. The format of her 355 class is set up using the very same psych principles you learn in it - she gives you quizzes every monday that you can't skip- but your grade will thank you in the end and if you worked for it! Be ready to work but also actually learn the material. She gives you all the materials for her tests so failing isn't an option. She's a pretty good lecturer but I don't find going to class useful because I can just read her slides and the book to do well in this class. Take her class if you can. ...Continue reading

Lots of overlap between the book and lecture and the potential quiz questions are given in advance--yay. You HAVE to keep up every week (for quizzes), but that's not too hard--first 4.0 at UW! Dr. Pickrell's also a total sweetheart. Most of all, the content is interesting and can honestly help you in other areas of school and life. Great class! Even if you never take classes alike before. I'm sure you all psych-ers can do good in it as long as you pinpoint what the provided quiz questions ask before you go to the quiz every Monday. Man, I feel blessed to have some doing-good classes in psych. I did much worse in those multiple choices classes. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 1/5
I go to lecture an average of once a week and am probably going to get a 4.0 in this class...which really just goes to show what an incredibly horrible lecturer this professor is. He obviously is intelligent and knows his stuff, but spends most of lecture doing things like reading data off of slides. ...Continue reading

Dr. Joslyn teaches a very, very difficult class. She only posts summary slides online so a lot of information if missed if class is skipped. Can be a tough grader but she provides study guides each week with VERBATIM questions that appear on quizzesexams!! ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 5/5
Professor Joslyn was engaging and great at explaining concepts and presenting different examplesexplanations when questions were asked. However, if you do the work, come to class everyday and aren't lazy, you will pass. The weekly quizzes are verbatim to the study questions, so if you study those thoroughly you will be fine. I had no problem getting 77 on my quizzes and getting a good grade but it took real commitment and time. ...Continue reading

Arguably, Susan Joslyn is the worst teacher I've ever had at UW. I do not say this lightly, whatever you do, avoid taking a class with her. She doesn't screen cast her lectures and she doesn't post her slides online. She gives weekly essay quizzes that are nearly impossible to get full points on, and the midterm and final are just as hard. ...Continue reading

Professor responds promptly to emails. All his slides are online. The class is graded on a curve, and the exam avgs are pretty high, so you need to work extra hard. You need to read the book too. Course material was very interesting, but personally I don't recommend taking this prof. Solid professor, just not too exciting. ...Continue reading

I had the hardest time staying awake in his class that eventually I stopped attending them. Very helpful and approachable. Class (Psych 355) was very easy. No writing, multiple choice tests, only 1 essay question with the prompt given out the week before. ...Continue reading

He's a super nice guy, and although his lectures can be boring and monotonous, they're also fascinating. It is important to pay attention to aspects of the examples of terms. I lost points on the homework because it wasn't very clear. Still did decent. I think it was easy enough to get an A. If you do the work and review lectures and notes you will get a good grade. I like the professor he was really nice and funny. ...Continue reading

The classwork was pretty boring. He clearly knows his stuff - he just isn't flashy or loud, so I think a lot of people write him off. I found the class to be very easy, but then didn't get the grade I was expecting, so do watch out for that. ...Continue reading

I ended up only going to class a couple times a week. He definitely rambles a lot, but his lecture slides (online) are clear and match up with the textbook well. CogLabs are mandatory but easy. Should be a relatively easy class if you read the textbook and lecture slides. ...Continue reading

He's very nice and tried to answer your questions, but I never understood what he was teaching about. The textbook was so hard to udnerstand. Weekly quizzes ,2 exams plus 1 final. There are too many questions on the exams and I never got a chance to read through every single question. But some people still got good grades in this class. .It's amazing! ...Continue reading

He is actually a grad student (2010-2011). He's been TA-ing couple of classes such as 317-8 and 355. He's the guy who does the job right. Descent enough. He won't upset you and You won't hate him. fair fair. ...Continue reading

slides are not informative enough and hard to understand, does not do ponopto recordings therefore it is important to come to class since he does not fallow the book 100% . Tests are only based on the textbooks and the questions are extremely specific and confusing. All multiple choice, but one answer is MORE correct than the rest even though more than one may seem correct. Not my favorite class. Interesting information, though. ...Continue reading
