Makes everything crystal clear & asks test/quiz questions the way he words lectures. He got upset that no one was coming to class and so the final was just a few questions about a lecture. You pretty much had to be there and alive to pass it. ...Continue reading

I did not go to class. When you need help, don't hesitate to talk to him. He is pretty easy if you make an effort and go to class. As long as you have all of his lectures you know exactly what to study on the tests and should be fine in the class. Went out of his way to help everyone including those who never showed up in class. I would recommend getting this professor. ...Continue reading

Its a pretty easy class if you attend class regularly and read the textbook before lecture. Like literally didn't go to class for three months. The class was easy. He was a pretty cool dude and you only have a few papers and 4 exams, but one drops. The exams are online, open note. .so again, EASY. He was always very helpful. I got a B and went to class probably 10 times. At the beginning of class he told us that everything that would be on the exams would be covered in lecture, so I didn't buy the book. Big mistake, especially considering that the exams are online and open book. Fill in the blanks on the slide from the book, those are exam answers word- for- word. The papers are interesting. ...Continue reading

The longer this class goes on the more confused I get. The only thing he had a hand in creating was the syllabus, and that has to be one of the most confusing syllabus I've ever read. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE FROM HIM!! ...Continue reading

I dont know why she has such low scores. The tests were online! It really wasnt that hard of a class. Three papers, four tests and pop quizzes. She makes the material interesting, current and relevant. If you have ANY interest in com, this will be a fun class for you ...Continue reading

There is no clarity. She does not like to use examples unless they are from the book. She also doe not slow down for anyone, if she is going fast ti doesn't matter to her. As long as she gets to a certain point by the end of the time then she is happy. TA are unhelpful as well. ...Continue reading

Personally, I'm not a fan. Yes, she can be funny, but takes it VERY personally if you object to something she says, even if you mention it without attacking her. I feel like the class is a waste of my time, and extremely repetitive. She is very good about responding to emails, but I feel like I can't ever say what I'm thinking in her class. ...Continue reading

Very good teacher. Was tough to pay attention at times in large auditorium, but she was very clear with her lectures and very specific. Enthusiastic, you can tell she cares a lot about the students. Super chill and approachable too. Show up, take notes, and you'll be just fine. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 3/5
Tests were hard in the sense you absolutely need to understand the concepts to do well. She does not offer much help and solutions for you to improve your grade if you are struggling in her class. The exams make up the majority of your grade, so come to lecture, take good notes, and read the assigned book chapters. There are no study guides provided for the exams. 4 Tests (drops lowest), 3 Papers. The body of the papers are not hard, but CRAAP assessments are time consuming! Overall, I would take her as a professor again. ...Continue reading

Tests were very hard until she extended the time we had to take them and I got 2 A- on tests solely because I cheated. The grading o her essays are straight forward enough, but doing the CRAAP assessments is the worst thing ever. Don't take her class unless you have to. ...Continue reading

Shafer is a great teacher! more dedicated and enthusiastic than lots of COMM grad instructors that I know of...we would miss him Other than talking a little fast, Shafer is so enthusiastic and fun which really helps you pay attention in the class. Studied for tests for maybe an hour and was able to get an A in the class. He doesn't try and trick you on tests or put things from the reading on the test. Also, very good looking. He is more than willing to help students understand the materials and is very helpful and clear. Being young, he knows how to connect with students. He has a good sense of humor and employs interesting youtube vidoes in his lectures. ...Continue reading

Hilarious teacher, gives great lectures though she goes through them a bit fast, theyre posted online afterwards. Does use tophat which requires a subscription. She's hilarious, and easy to listen to, however there is a lot of lecture information given, which will all be on the tests. Often rushed through lecture, sometimes it was only 20 minutes long which seemed useless because the lectures are the same as the assigned readings. Analysis papers can be difficult if you don't get help when you need it ...Continue reading

Seriously prepare to be confused. Her slides were impossible to review, and gave no value to what I was learning because she read straight off her ppt's. For tests I only studied the book and used my classmates to help me. Tests were poorly written and she was 0 help when going to her office hours. This class was a mess. The tests given are supposedly based upon the notes taken yet I studied the notes and the wording used in the test is NOT close to what we wrote down. Her power points are messy, she constantly sounds condescending, her papers have little or no instruction given, she doesn't use her whole class time. DO NOT TAKE. ...Continue reading

For the papers assigned there was no instruction. One of the worst professors in the college of Communication at WSU. She simply reads off Powerpoint presentations she doesn't even seem to understand herself, gives no instructions on papers yet grades at a 300 level, and is genuinely not interested in helping her students and seeing them succeed. Very condescending & rude. No original examples. Study guides are very vague. No additional explanations on topics. ...Continue reading

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Clearly not proof read, the typos in the questions made reading the exam questions the hardest part. The questions on the exams do not reflect a balanced overview of the material we cover in class. He's a funny guy that is very willing to answer any questions. Loved that he started every class with Youtube or music. I also loved that he left his power points blank in some spots. This helped to keep me engaged. He's a great professor who knows what he's talking about, and applies topics to real life. Clear lecture. He is that kind of teacher that would make the class as painless as he can. He does give out some free extra credits on every exam. So just attend the class, fill your power point slide, do your work, you are most likely will do well in the class. Strongly encourage you to take this guy's class! ...Continue reading

He is a very handsome and charming teacher that would make you deep into his class. Good teaching skill and nice personality. ...Continue reading

He's a funny guy that is very willing to answer any questions. Show up to lectures to understand the material. Take Com105 with him if you can! He genuinely cares about his students. Three exams (online- I recommend taking in groups!) and three 2-page papers. Super easy if you actually go to lecture although it's not mandatory. Sets you up for perfect note taking! Highly recommend Tests are super easy and all online. He is really friendly and easy to talk to. Papers are also not super hard. If you took Com 101, COM 105 is super easy.
