Burkey was a great teacher. He gave you everything you needed and more to get a decent grade... if anyone got below a C in this class, it was because of pure laziness. I worked my butt off in this class, so I got the A I deserved. I was sad to see him leave... he was a great teacher.

At fist I thought was he was kind of a strange old man, but after a while I realized I was wrong. You turn in your paper, he corrects it, you re-edit the paper and include his corrections, turn it in, and you've got an A paper. Show that you care about the class and he will notice. He's a good guy

He is absolutely amazing. He's friendly, passionate about the topic, and very good at explaining the material. It is ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL to read the textbook before class. If you want to do well on tests, do lots of practice problems, he makes plenty of those available. Over all, he is amazing.

Dude, the guy eats chalk! I'm a chem major & I must say this was a horrible class. If u r rusty on Chem, he will not explain it clearly,so find study guides. What's taught in lecture is a 180 from what's on tests/quiz. Super curve, but u still come out of it like vietnam ended.

It's a bummer that Spring '04 is his last semester because he's one of the few good science teachers out there. How can anyone say he has no personality. Just because he has a scientist/teachers sense of humor. The class was totally hard, but it is Chem!!! Chem IS hard! Doesn't really matter, hes gone anyway. I'll miss him

Burkey is great. He gives you everything that you need to get an A, but its alot of stuff. Best way to study is to keep doing all the quizes over and over, exams are almost identical to quiz questions, and this isnt a class you cancram Greatest attribute: made students think--the hardest theory for most students to learn.

form a study group, look at old tests and quizes and you should be fine. some of the TAs are a little hard to understand so if you need help go to his office hours!! I hate chemistry but for me this class was a good experience.

Hes not that bad but the test are hard, luckily the grading scale isn't too bad although its been a struggle. Your class was challenging (as it should be), and your style of teaching expanded my liking for chemistry even more! Kids: DO your homework, DO those practice tests. Keep it up and you'll do great. He used lots of examples that helped alot. I don't see how the lab corresponds to lecture though, probably have a crappy TA.

The book is more helpful than his lectures, but if you need to reinforce the material, his lectures are great. I found it very distracting. one good thing is that, due to the size of the class, one can easily get away with sleeping through his droning on. He uses vivid examples and analogies to help you understand what's going on.

Going to lectures was pointless for me as long as you get the notes from someone else. Read the book, it helps more than him, go to reviews. He made all the study tools available on the web which helped a bunch. I never went to class and I did fine and I am not what you would call a genious.

You turn in your paper, he corrects it, you re-edit the paper and include his corrections, turn it in, and you've got an A paper. Show that you care about the class and he will notice. Your class was challenging (as it should be), and your style of teaching expanded my liking for chemistry even more! Kids: DO your homework, DO those practice tests. Keep it up and you'll do great.
