The class isn't very interesting for majors but it's not to hard, and she is very knowledgeable. Tests were just to see if you memorized everything. Overall, the classes were interesting to go to, but the tests were a lot of work to memorize for. ...Continue reading

Very nice, interested in success of students in the class, and frames the class into life perspective. From the Middle East/Asia and very knowledgeable on that region. 20-30 minutes of worthless, untestable current events every class. Boring, but intelligent. If you want an A, memorize the book. ...Continue reading

Walt's class was one of the better I've ever taken at Miami. He's knows his stuff and doesn't hesitate to debate with students as part of his lectures (he'll win, trust me). Attendance is optional, however you'll get more out of the class if you show up. Class is generally enjoyable. The class required two position papers and three exams. ...Continue reading

If you are interested in Latin American Politics, be sure to take a class from Walt Really nice and accomodating guy, though. Won't hold your capitalism against you. people who complain about this class are the ones who don't go-Dawisha tells you VERBATIUM the exact questions on his exams, you HAVE to go to class and memorize it.personally i loved him, thought he was very articulate, intelligent and his life story (coming from Iraq) was very interesting.he can come off somewhat cold until you get to know him Top in his field, his classes are relevant and his lectures are interesting. Dawisha is great and knows his stuff, especially concerns in the Middle East. Sometimes the tests ask for specific information only found in the book, so make sure you read it and highlight key points. Otherwise, some 90% of the answers come directly from the mouth of the professor: Go to class everyday! ...Continue reading

Good class. Class isn't bad if you dont mind taking notes, but I never needed the book except for a small paper. His TA made all the exams from the in class notes and gave pretty detailed review sessions before the test. His tests are easy, if you pay attention in class and if you read the material that is not in the book. He has group quizzes almost everyday, but they are only for extra credit and they help you understand what will be on the test (there is only 3). I highly suggest his class. ...Continue reading

Good professor with a lot of experience. If you study for the test, you should do fairly well. He sometimes rambles on and his lectures can be long. He usually did a great job with the lectures, but it sometimes felt that he was phoning it in, as if a lower-level class didn't really matter to him. He was also insensitive in his humor at times. However, overall, a high quality prof, though probably better at a higher level ...Continue reading

He has quizzes at the beginning of class that are for extra credit. Don't take this class if you don't like being called out in class or speaking infront of a class. Great guy! He's a little awkward and scary at first, but he really cares about his students and their learning. He is extremely intelligent, but also not afraid to admit when he is wrong.
