i liked the class i really enjoy programing the projects were fun but the actual lecture was very boring i had to bring my computers and play games on it to keep me awake. but like everyone says he know it's boring but it's hard to make trach programing and make it exciting. bring the daily wildcat with you if you want to stay awake! ...Continue reading

I rarely attended class but always went to the lab sections. .after taking this class I still feel like I don't know anything about programming. I always needed help and I didn't do well on the tests. However, the grading is very generous with homework and lab making up almost 50% your grade. I got a B in this class because of the grading. Grubbs was a total bore I fell asleep in nearly every class. He has a sign in sheet for attendance, but once you're in class he doesn't care what you do. 4 of the 5 homework programs took no longer than an hour to finish. The real tests were nearly identical to the practice test he went over in class. The class was a cakewalk. ...Continue reading

I learned more from the TAs and reading the book DURING class than from listening to him. He is unclear and boring. He reads his lessons more or less right out of the text. I recommend having a good understanding of programming before taking this class. This guy was so aweful in class. All he did was read the book word-to-word. He realised towards the end that students didnt give a d*** about his lecture and those who came to class were getting their beauty sleep. You have to learn on your own in his class.... ...Continue reading

A lot of people complain that this course is hard, but it really pays off if you move on to ECE 275 after. Lectures were boring. Homework assignments are mainly time consuming. Get a GOOD group for the final project, you will need it! Tests were very hard, as you must hand write programming code. Professor is very helpful to the students and willing to help. Homework worth a lot in the class, but are easy until the end of the semester where they become very difficult. Second exam was tough. Find a good group for the final project! ...Continue reading

Great teacher. In Fall 2011, had a mandatory lab section that WAS NOT included on your transcript and gave no extra credits. TAs were fairly unhelpful and some content is outdated/does not conform to standards (e.g. fflush(stdin)). Assignments are difficult if you are not a fairly proficient programmer. Even though i got a B in this class, it was AWFUL. Each homework assignment takes DAYS and the labs are even worse. He makes this class SO much more difficult than it should be for an intro programming course. Lazos is helpful but the class is beyond hard. Avoid at all costs, fair warnin ...Continue reading

The professor is EXTREMELY helpful when you approach him for help with homework, tests, etc. I didn't have programming experience before this class. He's Greek so he has a slight accent, but nothing too bad he's very clear and easy to understand. He answers any questions you have in class and he keeps lecture interesting and entertaining. He doesn't refer to the book much, more his notes, but you can find it all in the book if you need extra help. Loukas is a great professor! ...Continue reading

The lectures were basically just going over the slides that are posted on the class website, and there is very little actual programming shown in class. He wants everyone to learn by making mistakes and working through problems so he will not give you answers. Sounds bad, but he will help as long as needed and give lots of pretty good hints. Hard homework after the 4th or 5th (9 total). Tests are actually easier than the homework. Watch out for the lab and some of the TA's... My advice--work as a good engineer and get in a group early. Work with those same people on the homeworks, and do the final project with them. I was fortunate to get into an amazing group for the final, and that carried me thru. He's a good professor, and tries hard to explain things in lecture. Good professor overall. ...Continue reading
