He was a great professor- at first I struggled in the class on the exams, but they were all math based and similar to class examples. Almost the entire class is using time value of money in different ways. Most classes are just working practice problems, and excel assignments are very similar to what I experienced in my last internship with spreadsheets. Always answers in-class questions. Good teacher, easy class, but tests are made really hard. ...Continue reading

Chappell is easily the hardest class I've taken so far, simply because he expects his students to critically think. His test challenge you as they should. He not only teaches you the material but develops his students critical thinking skills, which are vital in the real world. It also helps he has a very dry, sarcastic sense of humor that keeps the class engaged. best teacher yet in FSB After I started going to office hours, I did much better. I went from a D to a B (A on the final). I highly recommend office hours as well as sticking it out. He offers extra credit at end ...Continue reading

Best teacher I've had at Miami. I've never learned so much in my life. Chappell lives and breathes this stuff, but teaches it in an interesting demanding way. However, it is also the hardest class I've ever taken. But I do recommend taking it still if you are a Finance major. ...Continue reading

Chappell will kick your butt, but he respects students who put in the time and effort. He makes the hard material easy if you really want to learn. Extremely helpful for those who wants to take advantage of every learning opportunity. One thing for sure, after you take this class, you'll learn how to manage personal finance. If you are Finance major, you don't wanna miss this class. Must go to class. Most people I know failed the first exam and are still going to get Bs. You have to over prepare for the exams because but he's a great teacher and you will do well if you put the hours in. You've gotta take him if you're a finance major. ...Continue reading

Going to have to do 2 reviews to cover everything. Learned a lot from the excel projects. Tests are very difficult. First test average is a 60 so don't get scared off, it gets easier. Like I said very arrogant, but is a very good professor. Just be prepared to work hard and you can make it through. Makes you think critically. Be prepared to spend more hours on this class than any other. ...Continue reading

Excellent professor. He holds the class to high standards, but you will truly learn finance by the time it is over. If you are a finance major, you need to take Dr. Chappell's class. All you need to do is read the text, listen in class, and practice problems outside of class, and you will do well! ...Continue reading

Seemed pretty easy to me. Probably the most arrogant professor I've ever had. Likes to talk about his money a lot so just be prepared to listen. I'll give Chappell a lot of credit, this class changed me a lot. The guy knows his stuff inside and out. Probably the best FIN 301 teacher you'll find at Miami. I thought Finance was going to be terrible, but it turned out to be one of the best classes I've taken. He may be harder than the other sections, but he is a fantastic teacher. ...Continue reading

Definitely the best professor I've ever had at Miami. His class is very hard, but if you are a finance major you need to take the class with him. He teaches you what the real world is like and some people can't handle that. ...Continue reading

He's the best FIN 301 professor! Made exams out to be impossible, but they are actually pretty easy if you pay attention in class and do practice problems. Announces the guidelines for project 4 in class one day, so if you dont go you are screwed. Nice guy out of class. ...Continue reading

Dr. Chappell is an incredible professor. He gives you everything you need to do well. If you're a finance major, take his class. He gives you the basic tools to succeed, but he expects his students to put the work in and meet him halfway. His lectures are great, tests are really hard, but the satisfaction I gained from making it through his class is unmatched. ...Continue reading
