Great lecturer and his door is always open if you need any kind of help. Such a sweet guy, but has incredibly difficult tests if you didn't prepare properly. Make sure to do lots of practice problems and pay attention to lectures. His tests are killer. Make sure to work efficiently! Don't spend too much time on the multiple choice questions. Even though the exams are difficult, there are never any surprises. You will know exactly what to expect. His class isn't mandatory but he sometimes gives test questions during lecture. ...Continue reading

You can't only attend class and expect to pass with flying colors. This class requires A LOT of time and practice. Rod doesn't assign homework but it is a good idea to do the problems at the end of every chapter. Compared to Zhao, his tests are much more difficult and he does not give you hints like Zhao does. Be prepared to do a lot of studying. If not, find another professor. He doesn't give out practice tests. He does a few practice problems and examples during class. Workshop and textbook questions are essential to passing his tests. Don't get behind on those problems, since tests are every two weeks. ...Continue reading

One of the toughest Chem profs. hands down. Gives a lot of superfluous info during lecture, and some FRQs on tests are way harder than necessary. Some of his multiple choice can be found in practice tests from Dr. Zhao, so I would recommend doing those as practice, since Rod doesn't give practice tests. Would not recommend. ...Continue reading

I hear many complaints but this was 1 of my fave classes, I don't usually enjoy chem. He's helpful when you ask for it, has a quirky sense of humor, and I got an A w/out taking the final. All FR qs are ones he does in class! Some complain that he doesn't show his work on the board... this is college, no one shows simple algebra. Sit up front! ...Continue reading

Yes, Dutoi is hard. But he is not unreasonable. If you pay attention in class and do practice problems (which are not assigned to you) you will do well. Getting an A is hard though, as Dutoi will only give it to 10% of the class unless you really earned it. He's extremely organized, which makes it easy to understand the materials. However, you would definitely need to study for the long answers, some of which are out of workshop problems for sure. Understand the concept, don't just memorize! ...Continue reading

Absolutely loved how organized and detailed his lectures are, however his exams are very hard. Practice exams are given, but FRQ's on the actual exams are very difficult. Extra credit is offered (course eval.) at the end of the semester but is only worth .05%. He curved the class in the end about 3% I believe (although I still failed). ...Continue reading

Made the class harder than necessary. honestly this is the most plain review you'll find. He's a horrible teacher who barely helps students. I've never had a worse one before and I'm so happy that I'm out of his class and into the next chem class. I've never met anyone who's spoken highly of him, from freshman to upperclassmen. if you need to, drop the class ...Continue reading

Do the problem sets he assigns, they are good practice for his tests and he even sometimes put the exact problem you have for homework on the test. Read the chapter before he reviews it in class, it helps a ton! Know how to do the problems, he's pretty fair on what he expects you to know for tests, just don't make stupid mistakes... ...Continue reading

She had a tough semester and it was reflected in class. Very good professor. His exams are similar to his previous ones, if he posts them on blackboard do them. His exams problems are straight from the book, but worded in confusing ways. Do problems in the book and example problems from class and you should be fine. Try to get old tests from last year - keeps it pretty similar. ALWAYS do HW questions, and old tests! Go to him for questions. For quizzes, practice with the HW problems. They are similar to his quizzes! ...Continue reading

One day I counted how many times he turned from the projector and looked at the class. It ended up being 2 times. He is SO boring, it's not even worth going to class. Everyone just read the book, and showed up for the exam. The biggest downside to his teaching method is that he is incredibly boring. You never really need to go to lecture because once you're there, sleeping is inevitable. Just read the book and do some hw problems. Even look through his powerpoints, which he works hard on btw. You'll be fine. ...Continue reading
