I've never really comment on any professors in UH, but seriously, for Professor Abbott, you gotta take him, he's a gem for the polsci department. He tries to weed out cheating, and doesn't give any slack about tests. He doesn't curve your grade, and he won't take any homework assignments late. With that being said, his lectures are engaging, insightful, and extremely informative. Abbott knows what he is talking about, and does a great job. ...Continue reading

He is really passionate about what he teaches and shares a lot of real life experiences and comparisons to help you remember the course. Barely had to study outside of class because of how he taught. Only downside is the Learn Smarts. Tests are easy if you attend class. He offers tons of extra credit throughout the semester, and is always very clear and concise. The tests are very straightforward if you come to class, use the online review, and read the textbook! I would highly recommend taking him! ...Continue reading

By far the best political science professor at UH. The tests were easy and he gave review sheets before tests which certainly helped. Everything is made clear in the class. He gives funny and good examples. Best political science teacher ever! We didn't need a textbook since I was enrolled in a winter class but you mist probably will if you take a spring or fall session. He does a good job of keeping the class engaged even though it is a 3 hour class. Take DETAILED notes, form a study group, go to class, and do online post tests = guaranteed A. Take this class you WILL NOT regret it! ...Continue reading

Prof. Abbott made my decision to change my major to political science a much easier one! Information from lectures will show up on the exams. Review sheets are very helpful when studying for the exams. I enjoyed the class and I think the way he presented the information was clear. He teaches like he wants students to enjoy learning. His lectures are very clear and on point, tests are based on that, eventhough attendance ain't a requirement but you should go to class. He does NOT curve, but remember to take good notes. G'luck! ...Continue reading

If you expect to get an easy A, don't take him. I had the Saturday class, so the 3 hour lectures weren't always enjoyable, but he cracked some jokes and kept me engaged the whole time and I learned a lot from him. Very straight forward, knows the material and is passionate about it. Utilize the test reviews, put at least three to four hours into studying for the tests and you will be totally fine. One of those where even if you fail you still like the professor. ...Continue reading

Amazing Professor. Really cares about the subject and the students. Interesting, but very long lectures. Clear grading criteria. Gives a lot of extra credit. Have to go to class to take notes because he doesn't post notes online or follow a textbook. Tests are pretty easy and a lot of the grade is just completion. ...Continue reading

Important to attend class because he lectures over information that is not included in the book. Besides the time-consuming bur simplistic LearnSmart assignments in order to successfully pass the class one has to focus on getting good grades on his exams. Other than that he responds quickly to e-mails. Also, he doesn't give extra credit. ...Continue reading

Abbott means well and is a great professor. His lectures are interesting and engaging. He keeps you coming back to a Saturday class which is nottt easy. His tests are extremely fair and almost exactly like the review sheet he posts. Of course, you will not do well in this class without coming to class every Saturday. You must attend class and take detailed notes to do well on the exams. For exams 1 and 2 you must also read the book in addition to the notes. ...Continue reading

He was very clear about his expectation, so to make an A is absolutely possible. Learnsmart assignments and 3 test grades make up your final grade. You're given two chances for extra credit, about 5 points each. Which isn't much but hey, it could be the difference between an A and a B. He keeps lectures entertaining. Would love to take another class of his! ...Continue reading

The subject is dry, but he does a great job of making it interesting. Very nice and funny as well. If you go to class, take good notes, and do the review, you should be fine. He offers extra credit and is open for dialogue and discussions while lecturing. One of the best Professors at UofH. ...Continue reading

Took Saturday 1337 class. I never like political but this professor made me change my perspective about it. He never require you to know deep concepts on political, mostly general and popular concept. Highly recommend him. Nobody would do poorly if they come to class and do the review well 95% similar to test. Can't explain for jack. Goes off topic so easily and wastes his time. You get the review and you look at your notes. Dont try and google the review whatever he says is essential. You really wont pass if you skip class ...Continue reading

I took his saturday afternoon class, but the way he teaches makes the time fly by. Usually gives 2-3 extra credit assignments. I would recommend anyone to take this course. ...Continue reading

I've taken this Professor for both 1336 and 1337. But I can easily say I loved the class and love what I learned in it. Prof. He keeps the class very interesting. Attendance is not mandatory, however there are extra-credits in some sessions that can help you a lot if you get them. Attend all classes, take good notes, do review sheet, get easy A. Pretty funny and his lectures are very interesting! Tests are not hard at all but they are based mostly off of the things he says in class so make sure you go to class daily and take good notes! Gives a lot of extra credit and a lot of opportunities to bring your grade up. ...Continue reading

Great professor. Although it is a three hours class, it is not that boring. His lecture is easy to understand. If you take good notes, do the homework, and do the review, you will most likely end up with a A- or A. He gives out extra credit for tests and finals. Definitely take him for Pols 1336 and 1337. He gives very helpful reviews. I never really read the book. I only took information out of it needed for the test (and it was needed for Learnsmart /:). I'm not fond of politics, but he manages to make the class easy and give good examples during lecture. ...Continue reading
