Great professor. Would recommend him over others. I know many kids in the other Chemistry classes that would actually come to Ganley's because he gives better lectures. ...Continue reading

Go to class and office hours. Seriously, chemistry is such a hard subject and I feel like people hate the subject/do badly in it and blame it on him. Ganley is by far one of the best teachers I've had. He's always patient when explaining things and most importantly, doesn't assume you have a good chem background. ...Continue reading

This guy really deserves a higher rating. Hardly anyone does this and he definitely knows who goes. It is a hard class and tests are hard, but he will go out of his way to help you if you make your presence known. So, if you go to lecture and actually listen their should not be a single concept you won't understand on the test everything is there. Also, the practice and explanations needed for calculation problems are all in sapling. No searching for hours in the book and online. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 5/5
He is one of the best, if not the best, chem teachers here. It definitely could be worse. He is a decent speaker and if you happen to miss class, there are online lectures. Do all the online hw and quizzes and if you don't have an awesome t.a. I would definitely do some problems from the back of the book. Exams are not that bad. I rarely attended and relied on the videos and it worked. Just complete your labs and watch every video (or attend every class) and you'll do just fine as long as you're fairly smart. ...Continue reading

Dr. Ganley is clear an concise in lecture and fair in his tests. Do the recommended book problems and write down ones you don't get. Ask Ganley questions. Ask the TAs questions. They are there to help and Chemistry is actually pretty fun once you get it :) ...Continue reading

Chem isn't easy no matter the professor but does a good job of explaining things and lecture isn't awful. Whenever I have a question, he's very non-judgmental and is willing to help. Unlike Perry, he doesn't automatically assume you have a good chem background and explains everything well. He's not just a great professor, but a great guy. He's great, chem still sucks though. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 5/5
Loved Ganley, he uses tegrity for every lecture (which is an online video of his complete lecture), so attendance is optional. That being said, it is still very possible to get an A in the course. Perform well in the labs, they will save your grade. Do the homework they will save your grade. Grade is curved at the end of the semester. Getting an A on every assignment and a C average on the exam depending on the curve can get you an A in the class Tests are multiple choice and he tells you what you're going to need to know. Doing all your homework and studying the night before and you should be good. ...Continue reading

As someone intending to major in Chemistry take this with a grain of salt, but this class is really not bad. His lectures are easy to follow as he is really good at explaining the material. He does a good amount of examples that help to see applications. Exams are tough, so study and get help if you need it. I would take another class with him. ...Continue reading

Dr. Ganley certainly means well but many of his lectures merely recite the book. So read the book on your own and go to your teacher aids for help. I ended up with a B in the class. Although easy going, he doesn't say enough. Get points where you can because they add up. Don't wait the day of to do sapling hw and read your lab ahead of time. It's a challenging class, but if you stay on top of it and put in the effort that most students aren't wiling to do you can get an A. I advise going to office hours, study sessions, and finding motivated people to study with. At points, homework was posted 2 days before it was due, without any announcement of doing so. Make sure to read the textbook, as he isn't going to cover a majority of the exam material in class. Rude and hard to approach. Doesn't seem to care about his students. The first couple tests are reasonable the last couple seemed impossible. Very monotoned. A lot of work outside of class is needed. Like other comments, he was always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to help his students. A great guy, actively involved with other MU stuff.
