This is by the far the worst teacher on the planet...you can hardly understand anything she says. She makes a somewhat interesting course, DULL & BORING. There is absolutely no point in going to lecture because she takes it DIRECTLY from the book...so just read the book. She will not keep you updated on your grade throughout the entire semester. She is a horrible teacher, doesn't know her own slideshows, and has very poor grammar. She will often read right from the book-- I can do that at home. She is also very difficult to understand. Don't bother going to class, because the tests are completely out of the book. ...Continue reading

Probably the worst professor at MSU. She could care less about students, rarely taught unless it was reading definitions directly off her powerpoint, and made a sociology class into a lesson on how all of the white Americans are ruining Muslims' lives. One upside is that it was an easy class. Stay away at all costs. ...Continue reading

DO NOT EVER TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES. Doesn't know what a valid excuse is for being in the hospital. Will not post notes to Angel, isn't helpful to any concerns students have. Can't understand her English. ...Continue reading

Worst professor I've had while at Michigan State. . Avoid her!!! SHE IS HORRIBLE. All we ever talked about was Muslims, Arabs, and Islams. It was an intro to Sociology course. Also, she doesn't put any grades on Angel. It's been a week since I took my final and still haven't received my score back yet. I got my scores from my exam I took yesterday already. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. ...Continue reading

Super funny, relatable, real. Undeniable. But if you go to all the lectures and do all the reading, you can do really well. Broman loves teaching and he loves helping his students. Engaging, informative lectures. You will learn more from one class with him than you will in a whole year otherwise. ...Continue reading

He's not kidding when he says you have to read to do well, there will be several things he NEVER mentions in class (not even hints to) that wind up on the exam in heavy detail. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 2/5
He assigns a lot of long reading and his lectures do not really match up with his readings. The tests are not from lectures or the readings so I have no idea how you are supposed to prepare for the exams. I got 60% on all exams but got a 4.0 due to the extra credit assignment. Class was not what i expected! He's a good professor, but he doesn't always provide enough context on exam questions, which makes answering them difficult even if you've kept up with every reading and video. Exam questions may also include pretty much any comment made during lecture. ...Continue reading

Make sure that you have to take the class. I'm not gonna lie, his tests are difficult, but if you really really study hard and long, it may pay off. There are numerical facts and percentages that you will have to memorize for his tests. He does like to rant and digress a bit in his lectures. Also, if you don't read and re-read, you will NOT do well. ...Continue reading

Hardest class I have ever taken. For the love of GOD do not take this class if you do not have to. I am a social work student and I read about sociology for fun, yet this managed to be my least favorite class I have ever taken at MSU. Professor Broman's lectures have nothing to do with the exams but you have to go because he has pop quizzes all the time. His tests are impossible, and there? s no study guide. Avoid this Professor if you need to take this class. ...Continue reading

  • Class rating 2/5
Told us we have a quiz just two days in advance, and the quiz ended up being over 250 pages of textbook material, and was a 60 question true/false quiz. They're all random, and reading is essential for the pop quizzes. They're a huge chunk of your grade, DO THE READING! He's not the best, but if you commit to this class you can get a 4.0 easily He's absolutely crazy, throws random rants from class on the exams, and those stupid little bubbles in the corner of your textbook with irrelevant information? That's on exams too. I got a 3.5 in the class but I spent around four hours a day learning material for this class. Don't take it. ...Continue reading

Don't take this class with him if you don't have to. Lectures and what you are reading in the book do not match up, he expects way too much to be teaching a 100 level class. Readings are boring and get ready to write down a lot. He doesn't post his lectures online and expects you to copy down every word in his powerpoint. ...Continue reading

He'll tell you at the beginning that you're going to receive X amounts of pop quizzes, in class assignments, and attendance checks. He doesn't provide any sort of study guide. Direct quote from him Anything you've read(of the three books), any movies you have seen, anything I have talked about in lecture is fair game. This class sucks! ...Continue reading

Don't take this class if you do not have to. Expectations are astronomical and ridiculous, and the lectures turn into his personal rant sessions that you are still expected to take notes on. Don't put yourself through this, don't do it, or else be ready to come to every single class and read that book cover to cover. Never doing that same mistake again. Dropped my overall GPA from a 2.8 to 2.1. Would not recommend. ...Continue reading

Lecture is extremely dry and it's honestly just a regurgitation of what you have to read out of the textbook before class. He will make 5 slides last the whole 80 minutes of class time.
