What classes of licenses does the DHSMV issue?

and E for drivers of non-commercial vehicles.

Who needs a license?

1.If you live in Florida and want to drive a motor vehicle on public streets and highways.

How long do you have to transfer an out of state license to the state of Florida after moving here?

Within 30 days of becoming a resident.

You are considered a resident if you:

a. Enroll your children in a public school, or b. register to vote, or c. File for a homestead exemption, or d. Accept employment, or e. Reside in florida for more than 6 consecutive months.

Who does NOT need a license?

The following persons may drive in Florida without a florida driver license, if they have a valid license from another state or country: Any non-resident 16+ years. , any u.s. gov't employee driving a gov't vehicle on official business, any non-resident working for a firm on a u.s. gov't contract (60 day limit), any non-resident student, any person temporarily driving farm equipment or road machines, non-resident migrant workers even though they enroll their kids in school IF they have a valid license in their home state, armed forces members stationed in Florida who are not otherwise employed in the community.

Identification requirements that must be presented to obtain a license.

Primary I.D., Social Security Card, and two documents showing your residential address.

What is considered Primary I.D. ?

U.S. Birth Certificate issued by gov't not hospital, Valid unexpired U.S. passport, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, Certificate of Naturalization, Certificate of Citizenship.

Social Security of Secondary I.D.?

SS card, w-2 form, paycheck containing ss#, SSA-1099, Non-SSA 1099.

Vision Requirements

You must wear corrective lenses while driving if you need them to pass the test. You are not eligible to get a license if you wear telescopic lenses. 20/40 or better each eye, If one eye blind(20/200) the other must be 20/40 or better.

What is the purpose of the Driver License Exam?

a. Can you read and understand road signs, traffic signals and highway markings? b. Do you know the Florida driving rules? c. Can you see well enough to drive safely? d. Do you have the skill and experience to drive safely? e. Do you have any physical or mental handicaps that would affect your driving?

What tests are required for the Florida Learner's Driving license?

vision, hearing, road signs, and class E road rules.

What tests are required for the Florida Class E license?

vision, hearing, road signs, Class E road rules, and active driving test.

Motorcyle Endorsement requirements are?

In addition to the required driving tests, a motorcyle rider course must be taken.

Commercial driver license requirements are?

Active driving test skills include?

a. Turn your car in 30'-40' space, b.Shift gears smoothly, c. Approach of crossing d. Observe Right-of-way, e. Straight-in-parking, centered and well spaced, f. stop and start on grade, g. stop quickly, h. backing up, i. obey stop signs, j. obey traffic signals, k. signal and turn, l. passing, m. stay in proper lane, n. follow at a safe distance, o. use proper posture.

Do you need to list physical or mental problems on your license application?

Only those that may affect your driving such as: epilepsy, fainting, dizziness, blackouts, diabetes.

Selective Service

State Law requires any U.S. male citizen or immigrant who is at least 18 but less than 26 years old to comply with Federal Selective Service System requirements.

Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education

All driver license applicants are required to complete a Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education course prior to being issued a license.

Sexual Offenders and Predators and Career Offenders

Must register within 48 hours of being registered as a sexual offender or having changes made regarding name, address or employment, to the DHSMV agent.
