Modern and Historical Romani Dialects

  • Central and Eastern Europe, widespread
  • Mostly mutually intelligible
  • Migrate to Europe 14th - 15th century from India
  • Similar to languages in Idea (Indo - Iranian)

Non indo - Euro languages of Europe and India

  • Finno - Ugric languages

  • Vowel harmony: distinctive features and vowels guide phonetic changes

  • 5 lang families spoken in the caucuses: NorthWest Causasian, NorthEast Caucasian, South Caucasian, Indo - Euro, and Turkic
