Name 1 Name Class Date How to Make Lemonade The General Purpose of my speech is to inform. The Specific Purpose of my speech is to inform my audience on how to make lemonade. By the end of my speech my audience will be able to list the steps needed to make and serve homemade lemonade. Introduction: Elbert Hubbard wrote that his friend “…picked up the lemons that Fate had sent him and started a lemonadestand…” and the quote, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” was born (Elbert Hubbard). Florida has so many fresh citrus options. One of my favorite citrus fruits is the lemon. It is so versatile; offering itself to sauces, dressings, marinades, beverages, and so much more. Fresh lemonade is one of my favorite Florida beverages and it is so easy to make. Thesis: Today I will tell you how you can make lemonade by using the right ingredients, the right preparation, and the right serving container. I. First of all, I will tell you how you can make lemonade by using the right ingredients. A. You will want to choose the right lemons… According to Molly Watson, a Local Food Editor for About.com: “… Meyer [lemons] are sweeter than other lemons, [you can] start with about half the sugar…” (Watson). B. Next, you will want to choose the right sweetener… C. Last, you will choose the right water… 1. You can choose sparkling water… 2. Or you can choose filtered water… a. You also may like Sprite or 7Up… b. Kristen Doyle, a writer for the foodie blog Dine & Dish, suggests adding fresh strawberries to your favorite lemonade and sparkling water for wonderful strawberry lemonade spritzer. Doyle recommends 3 cups strawberries, hulled, and 2 tablespoons of sugar for 8 cups of lemonade (Doyle)… II. Second of all, I will tell you how to make lemonade using the right preparation technique.
