Exam 1 Study Guide ACIS 1504 Anything in grey highlighting is from the textbook, and is likely to be less important than lecture material  Information Quality o Information systems have components  Hardware, ex. Computer, keyboard  Software, ex. Windows, Microsoft Office  People, ex. Student, teacher  Procedure, ex. We know to go to canvas to get a ppt  Data, ex. The powerpoint itself o 5 component framework – hardware -> programs -> data -> procedures -> people  People harder to implement than computers, increasing degree of difficulty chg o Data vs. Information  If you can make a decision off of it, it’s information. Otherwise, it’s data o Good information  Accurate, complete, concise, timely, frequent, appropriate time pd, correct order, appropriate level of detail, correct media  Ethics o Information literacy – define what information is needed, where to obtain data, understand meaning of information o Ethics  Problems – misrepresent data, fabricate data, conceal information, unauthorized data, misdirected information  Guidance – laws, corporate policy, ethical behavior (moral) o Data analytics – hindsight (what happened), insight (why did it happen), foresight (what will happen), bombsight (how can we make it happen)  SDLC (Systems development life cycle) o Planning -> Analysis -> Design -> Development/Testing -> Maintenance o Documents big picture, encourages accurate complete requirements, but time consuming and difficult to document for large systems o Switching from old IS to new IS – plunge (all-in), parallel (run both for some time), phased (only parts of IS are switched over), pilot (part of company tries new IS)  Simplicity o One idea per row and column o Numbers to be compared should align in the columns o Header and footer for printing, freeze panes  Unity o Fonts/colors/borders/number formats/freeze panes/print tiles o Delineation – visually separating anything that isn’t similar (through use of colors/borders/bolding/etc) o Order of the data should also make sense o Emphasize the important data (bold/colors/etc)
