Healthy Eating Essay As a college student, sometimes it can be a feat to make healthy eating a priority. College students are known to live frivolous lives, eating mostly ramen noodles, and too busy studying to prepare a healthy meal. What most students don’t realize is healthy eating is a possibility! All it takes is a simple shift in eating habits to change your whole life. The first step to eating better is to make the shift to consuming healthier food options by continually choosing to make better choices every day. These “better choices” include consuming less added sugars, less sodium, and less saturated fats. It is important to make sure you consume the recommended amounts of vegetables, proteins, fruits, and grains. Students should also know if they are vegetarian or vegan they can still find protein resources in vegetables like beans and peas. Many students are busy and think don’t have time to prepare healthy meals, but there are plenty of quick recipes. If you aren’t quite a chef yourself, you can find thousands of recipes online. One of my personal favorites is to pre make a week’s worth of healthy meals and snacks in less than 30 minutes. I do this by mixing a variety of vegetables, fruits, grains, and proteins into Tupperware containers ready to go whenever you’re ready! Another tip for healthy eating is when cooking to avoid using butter and to use oil instead. All the little things you change in your healthy eating shift add up to a huge change. Healthier eating means a healthier you! Whether you choose to make the shift to feel lose weight or stay in good health, you’ll probably be feeling less groggy in the way to your dreaded 8 am class. Without Mom’s balanced meals it’s not a surprise many college students don’t eat how they should, but if they choose to shift to a healthier lifestyle they’ll find it’s a lot easier than they think. By following the recommended amounts of fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins any student can reverse the freshman 15 and live a healthy lifestyle.
