Immunology exam 1 STUDY GUIDE Key Notes  KNOW chapter contents at the beginning of each chapter PowerPoint presentation!!! ­ A majority of the material for the exam comes from these chapter contents so  make sure to know them by heart!  Anything in RED in the lecture notes is fair game for being on the exam! CH. 1  Study chapter contents 1.1 – 1.14 topics   Small pox was eradicated in 1979  Know definitions of Immunology  Routes of infection (know the general ways for pathogens to enter the body) ­ oral, respiratory, ocular mucosa, sexual transmission, nasal, trauma to skin,  nasal, etc..)  Know the different types of barriers of the body (skin & mucosal surfaces)  Be familiar with the different types of mechanical, chemical, and microbiological  barriers of the human body!  What are cytokines? What is their purpose?  Know difference between Apoptosis and Necrosis  Know difference between the immune responses! (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)  Adaptive immunity is very crucial for the immune system  Know the different cell types in the immune system and what their functions are!  Understand the importance of hematopoietic stem cells! CH. 2  Study the chapter contents 2.1 – 2.11 topics  Be able to comprehend the pictures in the slides, but you don’t have to memorize them!  Know any key terms mentioned in the lecture notes CH. 3  Study the chapter contents 3.1 – 3.21 topics  Anything in RED is fair game for the exam!  The introduction slide at the beginning of the lecture notes  Be familiar with figures in slides  ­ don’t spend too much time on memorizing the pictures, rather just be able to  understand the context of them!!! CH. 4   Know the chapter contents 4.1 – 4.17 topics  Be able to comprehend the pictures in the slides!  Anything in RED is important content that may possibly be tested on the exam! Last Note  In blackboard, there is a practice test that I recommend you study for to help prepare for  the upcoming exam!
