so you assume it’s a famous person
Sleeper effect: hear information for first time and don’t believe it. As 
you hear it more and more from different sources, you get more 
persuaded it’s true
Types of Memory “Amnesia” Source amnesia: when you don’t remember how/when you find out 
information (
-Ex. of young age: Your personality when you were 3. Parents tell  you) -Ex. of adult: being drunk and not remembering
-Ex. of old person: Alzheimer’s makes brain less active and 
myelin sheath deteriorates
Cryptomnesia: we read something and later we misremember it as our 
own idea (not on purpose) 
-Ex.: plagiarism Eyewitness Testimony Most cases of wrongful conviction are a result of incorrect eyewitness 
testimony
-Accurate vs. inaccurate  Life/death situation People have a difficult time recognizing faces -In-group vs. out-group People remember better if the person is the same race as 
them
