background image Clouds and Precipitation Clouds composed of light  When get heavier, they fall causing precipitation Forms of Precipitation Rain Snow Sleet Freezing rain Hail  Pressure and Wind Pressure: how heavy the air is; force exerted on the atmosphere Wind Generation: differences in pressure and air density initiates the wind flow Station Model Station Model: Diagram on a weather map providing weather information for given  region o Temperature – read number as it is labeled on diagram (top number) o Dew Point – read number as it is labeled on diagram (bottom number) o Cloud Cover – look at the center circle EX: half shaded circle = half cloud cover present o Present Weather – two symbols Rain = 2 dots Snow = 2 ** Nothing at all = no precipitation falling Wind Speed and Wind Direction Wind Speed o Knots o 1.15 mph = 1 knot o Half­barb = 5 knots o Full­barb = 10 knots o Flag = 50 knots EX: 2 long barbs = 20 knots EX: 1 flag and 1 half barb = 55 knots Wind Direction o Which direction the wind vein is pointing EX: wind vein pointed to north, wind coming from that direction –  therefore = north erly winds
