How do we reconstruct a crime scene?

∙ What was said and by whom? 

∙ What evidence is there? 

∙ What was found, missing, moved, touched? 

How to record the crime scene?

When

∙ When was the crime committed? When was it reported? 

∙ When was the scene secured? When did first responder arrive?

Where

∙ Where did the crime occur? Where are the evidence? Where ate the witnesses? Where  was entry made 

How do we reconstruct a crime scene? Draw it, photograph it. Do a walk through and develop a  theory.

Recognize the physical evidence, trace evidence, testimonial evidence (witness, victim, first  responder, etc.) make sure that it is reliable.  Don't forget about the age old question of What is the castle doctrine?

How to record the crime scene? Photographing, videoing, Photos should reflect scene as found. 

Purpose is to capture adequate images to capture best documentation of the moment crime scene  was photographed. According to FBI they recommend all photographed be digital photography.

Crime scene photography means what?

Crime scene photography – visual storytelling.  Black and white photos would not influence the jury as much. Virtual photograph 

Photo should be available to judge, defense lawyers etc.  Photograph area of most violence.
