Common Stressors  Most common stressors are Money & Work

expectations on you
background image PRACTICE For years, I have been arguing with my coworkers about how our work group should be
structured.
(CHRONIC PSYCHOSOCIAL – long term relationship) I trip over my computer cord at work & sprain my ankle.  (ACUTE PHYSCIALshort term) Since I’m the leading expert on the climate in Antarctica, I am constantly battling really
cold weather.
(CHRONIC PHSYCIAL – cold environment) My report is due tomorrow & I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish it.  (ACUTE PSYCHOSOCIAL mental short term stressor) Key Points  Modern work roles contain both physical and psychosocial stressors  Stressors can also vary along the dimensions of predictability, intensity, and  controllability  Consider these dimensions as we discuss work role stressors and interpersonal stressors Role Conflicts  Demands of one role are incompatible with demands of another role

4 Types Intrasender = (same)  mixed messages from same person
(boss telling you to do same thing in different ways)
