As we get closer to the 1st test, these notes cover a lot on how we analyze political data.
Taken - Thursday, January 19, 2017 This set of notes covers a Texas population breakdown in comparison to the US population, fertility rates in the US, and the Texas population in comparison to the Texas population in 20-30 years.
Includes a short review from Week 1 Lecture 2 over rules of the game, and the fertility rate graph. New material includes comparisons between the median household income, incarceration rate, etc. of Texas and the US, data accuracy, Texas Health Insurance Data, and a brief introduction to the government of Texas
This lecture covers local vs. state vs. federal government, supremacy clause, the federal system, comparing states and communities, and the breakdown of 2014 expenditures between federal and state. Anything highlighted in RED is and IMPORTANT STUDY MATERIAL.
Taken Tuesday, January 31st Comparisons of States and bad statistic examples were covered in this part and an intro to the differences between states in per capita income, metropolitan population, murders per 100,000, etc.
Taken Thursday, February 2nd. Continuation of comparing states from Lecture 5 to finish Chapter 1. We reviewed correlations, relationships in data, and how to pick out accurate relationships versus the bad.

Taken Thurs. February 9th, 2017 In this lecture, we covered the meaning of political culture, Texas' political culture and how it's distinct, and started the discussion over the role of government and how one's political culture changes their opinion over governments role.
Taken Tues. February 14th, 2017 These notes talk about the role of government in society and the economy, and liberal versus conservative views and what typically those mean. NOTE: Very important diagram at the end of notes that the professor specifically said to study
Taken Thurs. February 16th, 2017 This set of notes finishes off Chapter 3 with a little about Texas' political culture, Social Darwinism, and notes over figures that can be found in the textbook. It also begins Chapter 4 and talks about the different forms of government and covers most of the different periods of government.

Taken Tuesday, March 7 This set of notes begins Chapter 6 Lectures. In this class, we discussed what constitutes a democracy, the different levels of individual involvement in politics, and why voter turnout is so low in the US.
Taken Thursday, March 9th In this lecture, we continued to review Chapter 6. We went over explanations of non-voting in the US and Texas, and different factors that contribute to this.
Lecture 14 covers the end of Chapter 6 and the beginning of Chapter 7. Voting laws in Texas and voting rights for minorities are discussed as well as the concepts of political parties and interest groups and how they differ. Lecture 15 covers Chapter 7 which discusses the history of politics and hyper-partisanship.
Lecture 16 covers Chapter 7 which discusses dualism, Duverger's law, the primary election system, the decline in party attachments, and Figures 7.1 through 7.10 in the textbook. Lecture 17 covers the end of Chapter 7 and the beginning of Chapter 8. Notes are taken over interest group assets, lobbying, briefly talks about PACs, and introduces government at the local level
Taken Tuesday, April 4th 2017 This lecture introduces and explains the different organizations of County and City government and which is used when. This concludes Chapter 8.
This covers Chapters 6-8 in the textbook. Chapter 6 is the individual in democratic government. Chapter 7 is the political parties, elections, interest groups and the idea of competition. Chapter 8 is the first active government: that at the local level.
This exam covers judiciary process and criminal law, as well as those who run the government.
