b. [possible answer] Does God exist?
Scientific research is NOT the only kind of research Natural sciences – observed indirectly & directly
Social sciences – behavior of people observed indirectly &
directly Some geographers are social scientists Sense experience – observing using the senses (can’t always be
answered)
Philosophical questions – can’t be answered by science  o Questions regarding human rights, morality, etc.
o Thinking must be rid of contradictions
o Engage emotionally and rationally
Philosophy = pursuit of truth  Thought experiment – creating counter examples but everything has
to be true
Distinction- a claim we can scientifically test right now o is possible in principle to test scientifically but which we lack the  knowledge or tools to test right now The first step in trying to determine if a philosophical thesis is true ask this
question:
Does the thesis imply anything that is false? o A thesis (statement) that implies something false is false In order to figure this out we have to describe what it
implies
