Cellulose microfibrils are held together by hemicellulose which are weak individually but gain  strength through their number  To break the hydrogen bonds made between the cellulose microfibrils and hemicellulose, the  protein expansisn is used                                         Acid Growth Theory  Auxin somehow activates the proton pump in the plasma membrane, which acidifies the cell wall  space (apoplast) which increases the activities of expansins, which disrupts the hydrogen bonds  holding the hemicelluloses to the cellulose microfibrils, which allows the wall to expand,  reducing the mechanical stress in the wall, until new water entry
