background image Welcome to Online Introductory Statistics! We are excited for you to begin your journey in statistics. We hope you find this 
class an exciting and rewarding growing experience.  This course uses some of 
the most advanced educational tools to assist in learning. You will have access 
to many resources to help you succeed.  
Course Learning Outcomes – In this course, you will:  - Develop skills in using statistical software tools (e.g., spreadsheets).  - Determine the correct statistical procedures to use in a given situation.  - Explain how the Central Limit Theorem applies in inference.  - Interpret the meaning of confidence intervals in context.  - Interpret the results of hypothesis tests.  - Make informed decisions, based on the results of inferential procedures. - Develop skills and confidence as a disciple leader. Course Materials – You will need the following: - Online free textbook (see  title=Main_Page ) - A laptop with (your instructor will let you know how to obtain/access these) Google Hangouts (Setup instructions  here ) FDMAT 221 A/ B/C: Excel 2010 or later (Free download of Microsoft 
Office available at 
byuistore.com )  
We want you to steadily increase your statistical knowledge. It may take a lot of
work and practice before some ideas will make sense. Be patient. As we 
continue through the course, ideas will come together and you will see great 
progress. You’ll soon see how valuable statistics can be to your future career. If
you choose to approach the concepts you study in this course with an open 
mind, if you prepare diligently,  work hard to complete all the learning 
activities, and if you humbly seek the Lord’s help to understand the truths 
discussed in this course, you will have an outstanding educational experience 
that will be a blessing to you throughout your life.
Navigating the Course You can access all materials in I-Learn. There are 24 lessons. We will complete 
two lessons per week. Each lesson contains three parts: (1) Individual 
Preparation, (2) Group Meeting, and (3) Homework.
Individual Preparation: You prepare for each lesson by studying the 
corresponding reading. We’ve prepared pre-structured notes which guide you 
through the key concepts and ideas for each particular lesson. The pre-
structured notes have two parts. Part I asks you to define new terms and write
