researchers and clinicians 
▪  Previously clinical psychologists focused 
on research. 
A required clinical internship  Competence in diagnosis, psychotherapy, and 
research 
Training culminates in Ph.D.  •  PRINCIPLE  guideline for training.  •  Goal: Combine science and clinical practice  Be a skillful clinician, but also be able to 
consume research and contribute original 
research. 
Clinical Scientist Model  ▪  Focus on  research   •  Prepares students for a research career  ▪  Less  focus on clinical work
