March 18, 2016 MOTIVATION IN BUSINESS Scientific management- studying workers to determine the most efficient ways of doing things Hawthorne studies- Experiment about lighting and motivation, but found that the workers improved productivity because of how they were treated. This began the Human Relations movement in business. NEEDS OF ALL HUMAN BEINGS: MARCH 21, 2016 Motivation Approaches: Theory X- Rewards or Punishment Theory Y- Giving oppurtunites Reinforcement- positive reinforcement for good work, punishment for bad work, Extinction- Ignoring "show-off” behavior until it goes away. Equity Theory- People motivated by fairness. Expectancy Theory- Do you want the outcome? Can you obtain the desired outcome? TEAMWORK- Put people of similar goals and ambitions together in TEAMS March 23, 2016 Marketing: Creating (Product) Communicating (Promotion) Delivering (Place) Exchange (Price) Utility types: Form- product shape, size, Place- Location, Location, Location! Time- accessible 24 hours a day or 12 hours a day. Possession- ownership or renting, or rent to own.
