Basic Skills In Music Education MidTerm Study Guide Flat Key Signature Order: BEADGCF  (Remember: BEAD & Good Clean Fun) Flats go ½ Step Down ● If there is only one flat it is always going to be a B Flat & Key of F Flat ● Natural Sign    Put in measures as accidentals meaning it  cancels any sharps or flats in the that measure and makes them the “natural” or original  key, but only for that measure. ● Name of key second to last flat.  ● Go down 4 lines and spaces to figure out what key staff is in  ● On Staff flat symbol goes in front of note and flat symbol goes after the letter ● Flat Key Signature (Beside F Major) is always going to start with a flat key.  Sharp Key Signature Order:  FCGDAEB (Remember: Backwards from Flats)  Sharps go ½ Step Up  Scale: Pattern of notes that move up or down (Usually 8) do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do ● Once a scale is in flat or sharp it stays that way throughout entire scale Notes and Rests: Requires 8 Notes on lines and spaces Whole Step | Whole Step | Half Step | Whole Step | Whole Step | Whole Step | Half Step ● Flats or Sharps in Key Signature make all of those notes specified flat or sharp  unless accidental (natural sign) is inserted Repeat Symbol  Tells to repeat previous measures in music Mnemonic Syllables:  Whole Note: ta­a­a­a Half Note: ta­a  Dotted Half Note: ta­a­a  Quarter Note: ta  Dotted Quarter Note: ta­i  Eighth Note: ti  Dotted Eighth Note: tim Dotted Eighth Note Connected to Sixteenth Note: Tim­ri 2 16th Notes Connected: Ti­ri Whole Rest: sh­h­h­h Half Rest: Sh­h Quarter Rest: Sh Eighth Rest: Shi  Grand Staff
