A description of how close a measurement is to the true value of the quantity measured.

A scientific explanation for a set of observations that can be tested in ways that support or reject it.

quantitative observation

An observation that deals with a number or amount.

scientific law

A statement that describes what scientists expect to happen every time under a particular set of conditions

An organized way of gathering and analyzing evidence about the natural world.

physical science

Study of matter, which is anything that takes up space and has mass, and the study of energy, which is the ability to cause change.

simplifying representation of a system or phemonion, as in the science or economics, with any hypothesis required to describe the system or explain the phenomenon, often mathematically.

Describes the closeness, or reproducibility, of a set of measurements taken under the same conditions.

objective observation

An observation based on fact that can be replicated by all observers.

subjective observation

A subjective observation is based on how an individual perceives reality, rather than reality itself. Therefore, this observation could change wildly based on the person making the observation.

Explaining or interpreting the things you observe

Naturalistic Observation

independent variable

the variable whose effect is being studied.

Sharing ideas with others, through video, cd, journals, papers internet etc..

controlled experiment

An experiment in which only one variable is manipulated at a time.

Making a statement or a claim about what will happen in the future based on past experience or evidence.

dependent variable

the variable that may change in response to manipulations of the independent variable.

Facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis

qualitative observation

An observation that deals with characteristics that cannot be expressed in numbers.

scientific inquiry

Refers to the diverse ways in which scientists study the natural world and propose explanations based on the evidence they gather
