SAMPLING 2 Business Research Project Part Four Sampling Process and Data Analysis Hussmann is a worldwide leader in manufacturing selling and servicing display equipment and refrigeration systems for clients in the food industry The company s main markets include supermarkets convenience stores drug stores mass merchants and foodservice operations Hussmann 2013 In the last few years the company has changed ownership several times and research studies have shown that employees can have lower morale during these times of change Multiple changes of ownership can create anXiety and uncertainty among employees Grunberg Moore amp Greenburg 2008 The subject of this paper is to continue with the research project centered on the Hussmann Corporation by distributing the survey to the randomly selected individuals organize and describe the data and visually present the data with the help of pie charts The Sample Process The population consisted of eight departments within Hussmann including 62 employees therefore each department head was made aware for approval purposes of the concept of distributing a survey to be completed by a small sample size of two people from each department The purpose of the survey is to determine the morale of the employees in the face of major changes within the company for a school assignment The sample size was based on using one fourth of the size of the department or two employees from each department to participate in the survey On September 12 2013 Lajune Broussard eXplained to the employees how the survey will be conducted The employees names from every department were put into a basket for a BUSINESS RESEARCH PROJECT PART FOUR SAMPLING 3 random sample drawing of two employees from each department Each group of names was separated by department for a drawing of two employees The employees were informed that this was a random and anonymous survey They were also told to submit their completed surveys to a designated box After a complete sample of 16 employees was chosen Lajune Broussard distributed the survey and asked them to complete it without discussion and return the completed survey to the designated box face down Data Description The participating employees were asked if the change of ownership and merger has them worried about their job security Nine out of 16 strongly agreed three agreed and four were neutral When asked if managers focus on penalties to increase productivity four out of 16 strongly disagreed nine disagreed and three were neutral When asked if the company gives bonuses when performance criteria are met eight out of 16 agreed two were neutral and five disagreed When asked if they feel appreciated of a job well done one out of 16 strongly agreed seven agreed and eight were neutral The participating employees were asked if they receive gift certificates or a thanks from the company and one out 16 strongly agreed 11 agreed and four were neutral When asked if they are satisfied with their work environment five out of 16 strongly agreed and 11 agreed The employees were asked also if they receive an appropriate break every day four out 16 strongly agreed 11 agreed and one disagreed When asked if managers use surveys to find out from their employees how to improve the work environment two out of 16 were neutral eight disagreed and siX strongly disagreed BUSINESS RESEARCH PROJECT
