Gouwens: 96107 Andreucci goes to Naples to buy horses, he shows off his money and is arrogant A young sicilian woman sees the money and devises a plan to take it She pretends to be his long lost sister and invites him over to her home to stay He comes for dinner but she convinces him to stay the night At night he goes to use the bathroom and falls through a trap door in between the buildings The woman takes the money and the rest of the house locks him out He then gets taken by grave robbers and they make him enter a tomb to give them the treasure He hands them the treasure and they ask him to find a specific ring, he hides the ring and the tomb robbers lock him in the tomb A priest comes along to also rob the tomb and Andreucci waits for him to open the tomb and the grabs his leg, he then climbs out and vows never to return to a city such as naples Theme: emphasis on the clever minded, you don't feel bad for the main character, emphasis on street smarts and also the corruption of man (the priest) Findlen 93123 Lapo’s account of his family Very removed, he even writes about cutting cousins out of the family Only has two friends Shows how marriage is used to make the family better Women used to marry the family into better families Cohen 1 70 Double Murder in Cretone Castle Mistress of the house commits adultery against the Master of the house. Mistresses maids are torn, do they report to the master and give up the mistress? Or do they stay loyal to their mistress? Master of the house kills his wife and her lover (possibly his brother?) Wifes brother agrees that she deserved to be killed The overarching theme here is that honor was more important than family ties. If a family member brings dishonor to the family it would not be out of the ordinary for them to die Lost Love and a Handkerchief The man tries to court a young girl living in a monstrary The girl flirts with him He comes night after night trying to give her gifts She drops a Handkerchief for him He is so aggressive trying to get her that he is removed from the premises and never allowed to return The man swears they are in love and that she should marry him and not become a nun Theme of young women allowed more freedom than older women in renaissance Italy, conflicts with this idea Cohen 173227 The woman lives, a Pigeon Dies Cintia makes a pact with Lelio that if his spouse dies they will get married Lelio and Cintia make up an idea to murder his wife Felice Felice is poisoned Court Case happens, Cintia is found with three mysterious powers The black one does not kill the pigeon The greyish one does not kill the pigion with the dose given but has the potential to kill The white powder killed the pigeon after a while Uses science, god, and reasoning to convict Cintia Three in a bed Francesca is the governess to Innocentia and her family They live in innocentia’s stepfather's house Francesca runs into her milk son Vespasiano and he comes to the house, he sees a dress and wants to meet its owner, he continues to come until he meets innocentia Francesca plans with Vespasiano so that he can marry innocentia Vespasiano and Innocentia fall in love Vespasiano goes to her stepfather and is unhappy with the low priced dowery (stepfather doesnt want to pay alot for a child that isnt his) Vespasiano and Francesa plan for him to deflower innocentia, thus decreasing her value Francesca invites Vespasiano to sleep with her and innocentia, innocentia spurrs his advances the first night The second night, Francesca leaves and Vespasiano rapes innocentia three times He is brought to court for deflowering inocentia (rape wasnt a crime at the time but this was) He loses the case and must marry innocentia as punishment(?) Francesca is thrown out
