How have advocacy services affected the care and treatment of the aging population There are so many different advocacy services to help protect and guide assist our senior citizens They are there to give support to the elderly and step up and defend them when it is necessary Here in Illinois where I live it is illegal to infringe upon the rights of a senior citizen quotWhether it is a discriminatory act pertaining to employment or shady dealings regarding their real estate the Illinois Human Rights Act comes to the aid of the older adult citizens The Illinois Human Rights Act will also help with the defense in court or wherever pertaining to sexual harassment or as they enter into higher education and they may be harassed by other students or retaliated against because the elderly person has instituted a charge of discrimination against an entity What is so great so fantastic so very comforting and reassuring about these advocacy groups is that they protect those who may be vulnerable and unable to take care of themselves The elderly have a service an advocacy group namely the Elderly Law Services among others to help those senior citizens who may be the most helpless the weakest the most susceptible to risk danger or simply in a weakened or drained position in life Response 2 Advocacy services affects the care and treatment of care for residents in the nursing homes through a social worker It si the social workers responsibility to look out for the best interest of the residents The social worker enforces patients rights and educates the staff quotThere are residents that can not express their needs and in the advocacy role the social worker is responsible for bringing issues of what the resident desires are to the attention of the administration and other parties whose involvement may be necessary for decision makingquotSingh 2010 An advocate is someone that stands up for the residents needs to make sure they get what they need As an advocate its not the social workers responsibility to guess the needs or wishes of the resident but to take issues to administration to determine the best care for the resident An advocate comes with other titles of jobs within a nursing facility An ombudsman is a advocate for residents that investigates and resolves complaints with residents or problems within the facility Being an advocate means someone that will stand up for the behalf of a patient or residents needs and desires A social worker or ombudsman advocates and is concerned about the quality of care and quality of life of the resident in the nursing home facility Its great that there is the advocacy groups that protect and care for residents and their needs that otherwise may not have someone to do so Rather a resident has family or not as an advocate a social worker or ombudsman take care of the residents needs such as earring aids glasses and other personal needs of the residents References Singh D 2010 E ective management of longterm care facilities 2nd ed Sudbury MA Jones and Bartlett Publishers
