Consider a specific job within the criminal justice system What characteristics of that job are sources of motivation and what characteristics may lead to dissatisfaction or burnout How would you redesign the job to emphasize the first set of characteristics and deemphasize the others An example of a job within the criminal justice system will be that of a police officer The job has many areas of motivation First one can feel proud that he is serving and protecting the citizens to create a safe and secure environment for all to live in As such this helps to spur the individual on Next a police officer can also be motivated because justice can be served when criminals are caught and when investigations reveals important information that can offer a voice to those who are harmed or hurt On the other hand there are certain characteristics of the job which can lead to dissatisfaction or burnout First there is the constant danger and risks which the officer is exposed to In addition police officers can also be exhausted because they may need to work long hours to handle emergency situations or to tackle crime To redesign the job to emphasize the motivational factors and deemphasize the sources of dissatisfaction more training can be provided to officers to help them to reduce dangers and risks by allowing them to be more alert and better able to handle these situations In addition adequate labor can also be hired to ensure that officers are not overworked for various processes and tasks can now be further broken down and delegated Response 2 A job within the criminal justice system that I would choose would be that of a probation officer A probation should not be the quotbad guyquot to any of those he supervises as long as the probationer does what he is supposed to do This in and of itself would be a self motivator for the probation officer Fairness would be another motivator for the probation officer knowing that he has done everything that he could do to find employment and monitor his subject but knowing that should they set out of line they will be punished Pride in succeeding would be a motivator as well Knowing a subject has made mistakes but realizing that the probation officer has found employment monitored the subject and kept them from reoffending they were successful at their job With that being said all of the same characteristics of motivation could become negative characteristics should the subject being supervised fail to cooperate with efforts for rehabilitation Perhaps the worst feeling so I have heard of any probation officer who has been on the job for many years is supervising the children of parents they supervised early on in their career If I could redesign the job of a probation officer I would alter their case loads If a probation officer is having success with their subjects then they would get probationers who are more likely to cooperate and want to be rehabilitated to uphold their success rate and keep them motivated Should a probationer come out with a history of noncompliance I would assign them to a more traditional probation officer who is very strict and more likely to Violate them for their mistakes
