What are the major reasons criminal justice personnel get into trouble The major reasons criminal justice personnel get into trouble can be summed up in I word us People who work in the criminal justice profession are our own worse enemies and we bring a lot of problems on our selves There can be many excuses to justify our problems just like the thugs on the street but it comes back to choices and personal accountability Some of the excuses I have heard over the years everyone else does it look at the money we make compared to them what are they going to say there was more money than was turned in I could go on and on I have these few opinions as to why I do not engage in illegal activity 1 I would not enjoy jail 2 I do not want to embarass my family 3 I have more integrity than to lower my values Response 2 The major reason criminal justice employees get into trouble can be a result of the authority and responsibility that come with the job Employees who work within the criminal justice system have a lot of power over society and must be aware of their limitations As there comes a lot of power with the job there also is a lot of limits that we can not cross Unlike other jobs we really do not have someone standing over our shoulder or baby sitting us on our every move Police officers correction officers probation officers and even individuals who work at the court house must always remember they must play by the rules set in place and not violate a person rights with the authority they are granted Conducting improper actions while on the job usually leads to individuals within the criminal justice system getting in trouble Example can be searching a house without a warrant conducting traffic stops without a justifiable reason or talking to someone without following protocol These are all on the job issues that get employees within the criminal justice system in trouble The other major cause for employees to get into trouble is conduct while off the job DUI s domestic calls and complaints are all off duty issues that have gotten individuals in trouble who work within the criminal just system Since we are held to a double standard disciplinary actions can occur if the department feels you have shined bad light on the department An example of this occurred a few months ago with someone I work with He left his dog in the car while he ran inside to a get a drink at a store When he returned an individual approached him and started to yell at him and he advised the individual to relax and that he was an officer and knew what he was doing The individual complained on the officer and the officer got into trouble
