Week 4 D124 How proficient are you in your professional competencies What resources can you use to increase your proficiency in the areas where you need improvement I believe in many of the competency categories I am substantially involved My goals are high but very attainable The main reason I am seeking this degree is because of the competiveness of the job market I realize to stand out one has to have the competitive advantage of higher education professionalism and experience As I mentioned from a previous DQ you cannot rely on work ethics alone anymore much like they did in the past My father was able to work his way up to a 100k a year job with simply a 9th grade education and military experience No longer can one expect this type of advancement and to realize the opportunities professional competencies are a must I thought for many years I could work my way up through the same manner but I always realized I would go no further as I watched younger graduates being hired into management positions with no experience This is when I essentially realized that without a college degree I would always be in an average position Many avenues also exist for improving one39s self in these areas There is the online environment books co workers family and friends I have always learned from asking questions and working with individuals who are experienced in their field Who better to learn from than the one performing the work day in and day out Last I think not being scared to learn new things and involving yourself with the work is the best way to learn You cannot learn if you never actually get your hands dirty
