Performance and Career Management Laura Nash University of Phoenix HRM/531 Anne Selcer January 24, 2011 Performance and Career Management – Appraisals and Feedback Throughout InterClean’s developmental meetings, a performance and career management plan has been noted to be implemented for the sales team. An appraisal system is put into play, which will allow each employee to know where he/she stands with the company. It is important for the employees to know their strengths and weaknesses. Each employee will have a meeting with management to discuss the strengths, weaknesses, and goals. This meeting will also discuss action plans for improvement and the manager will help set out into notice for ongoing goals with points of encouragement and motivation (DeJanasz, Dowd & Schnieder, 2002). There will also be a segment during the meeting that gives employees to give feedback regarding the appraisal along with being able to provide other suggestions. Feedback is important to InterClean and the employees no matter whether it is positive or negative. Employees need to learn from constructive criticism and for InterClean to know how to work with the department and each employee to improve production. Management will have a rubic for the appraisal on the requirements that each employee needs to meet which are significant and attainable. It is important to demonstrate the standards relating to each individual’s performance since notifying the performance is what helps employees identify what is failure and what is success. Management will also give employees a timeframe to fix each negative part brought up from the feedback during the appraisal. If the employees receive too many negatives they will be placed on probation for 60 days to fix the problems which the negative feedback was received and another appraisal will be performed. This means the employees must clean up their act to keep their position. This will show if the employee is capable of fulfilling the position properly to the terms. InterClean will offer opportunities for promotions that at lateral and advancement. Growth within InterClean helps develop more opportunities to stimulate knowledge and skills in the industry. InterClean will also offer educational advancement classes which will be available online through the extranet. The opportunities will not be available to the employees until after their first year with the appraisal process performed and submitting and without the employee being placed on probation. Employees tend to work better when they know they are not micro managed so InterClean will offer a flex schedule for the sales team. Once an employee has selected a schedule; the schedule will remain the same for one year. InterClean feels that the flex schedule will also allow more family time for employees. InterClean feels that family is very important so employees should not miss out on their families functions and appointments. InterClean also believes that diversity is important. The sales team is very diverse, which consists of different ages of aggressive sales representatives. InterClean’s appraisal system will also be for the teams as well. The appraisal system will give feedback to the team to help motivate the team to make the team more valuable to the company. A rubic of team requirements will also be designed and displayed for the team to see. The team will also have a mission statement that will be provided by management. The mission statement will help motivate the team to be successful. All sales team members will be given roles and notified of their strengths and weaknesses before entering the team. The diversity of the team will help the team in the requirement to share ideas of selling and the so called tricksofthetrade with each other. These strengths will help balance the team to complement InterClean. The diversity also is by previous work history within InterClean and outside. Different experiences helps provide the team with a selection of ideas and each member is expected to share ways to improve the team to be more determined to succeed and achieve goals. Each team member will also know that everyone will be treated as an equal and no one will be heard over someone else. The sales team will go through extensive training inhouse that will be low cost for InterClean. Management will be set to determine the training for each member. The proper training for the sales team for InterClean will help develop stronger to reach the goals and make InterClean a successful company. References th Cascio, W. (2006).
