The Psychology of Health Capstone CheckPoint Name School In the delivery of health care the incorporation of psychology plays a significant role in the successful treatment of the Whole person Illness does not only affect the physical being but also has immense impact on the emotional being Therefore we must concentrate on delivering care that is comprehensive addressing both the obvious and the deeper issues from the psychological perspective to enhance patient outlook and adherence to treatment plan potential Stress can have a debilitating effect on one s health Stress can also complicate illness The immune system becomes compromised from stress Which is experienced for prolonged periods Which can in severe cases lead to death There is no question that illness especially chronic or terminal illness creates stress both emotionally and physically For this reason it becomes essential to incorporate stress reduction methods and enhance coping capabilities via behavioral and cognitive approaches available from psychology professionals The incorporation of psychology practices and methods into total health care Will also aid in the reduction of minor illness complaints by allowing the individual to develop skills for coping that can have positive impact on conditions such as headaches and hypertension or more severe cases involving obesity or anorexia Many of these conditions and illnesses stem can only be effectively treated if both the physical and emotional side of the individual are addressed A patient is not merely a physical body he or she is a living thinking and feeling being Often illness causes confusion fear and anxiety Many times the individual faces difficulty in adapting to lifestyle changes or just simply accepting their condition We must address the person as a Whole person The ability to cope has immense effect on how patient s respond to illness compliance With treatment and in recovery from serious illness The ability to cope can only be enhanced Via psychological methods Which are able to be suited to each individual and their specific health issues
