Week 6 dq2 Some of the poems in this week39s assigned reading are de nitely more musical than others I think that quotThe Tygerquot is one example of a musical poem The meter of each line could easily be set to music The accented syllables seem to follow a rhythmic pattern which makes the poem have a songlike quality to it Another good example of a musical poem is quotMy Papa39s Waltzquot This poem also has a structured meter which follows a musicalsounding pattern As a musician I was able to follow the poem in the time signature of a waltz A waltz is written in 34 time which means that each measure has three quarternote beats One can read the poem while tapping in threes and one will see that the words from quotMy Papa39s Waltzquot follows this timing perfectly Other poems from this week39s reading were much less musical in nature quotDeath Be Not Proudquot is a good example of a poem which seemed harder to attribute musical qualities Although there is a meter to this poem it is much harder to identify than others The lines do ow as well as the accented syllables are harder to identify It is still a good poem but the lack of a de nitive meter makes it much harder to get a feeling of a musical nature
