STRATEGIC PLAN PART I: CONCEPTUALIZING A BUSINESS Strategic Plan, Part I: Conceptualizing a Business University of Phoenix BUS/475 Dr. Laura Pogue Conceptualizing a Business According to Pearce and Robinson, strategic management is “the set of decisions and actions that result in the formation and implementation of plans considered to achieve a company’s objectives. Organizations use project management to implement strategic plans. A significant body of knowledg and training exists to support project management best practices. To improve project manager performance and thereby increase project success rates, the behavior of project managers must change. The project manager needs someone with a history of successful project implementations to help identify and correct bad habits. The project manager needs someone who understands how to change behavior. The project manager needs a coach . Healthy Place is a therapy store focused upon relaxation as an help in healthy living. Healthy Place provides a variety of products, tools, and techniques for customers to practice at home relaxation therapy. These products include body and cosmetic services, aroma therapy products, reflexology, perfumes, and candles. The achievement of a healthy balance of mind, spirit, and body is Healthy Place’s focus. Mission Statement Healthy Place is chosen to service a variety of customers including varying cultures, ethnicities, and religions all with the common goal of achieving relaxation and stress relief. The main struggle for Healthy Place will be other relaxation therapy stores and spas. Customers have the choice between going to a spa and paying huge dollars or come into a store with a relaxing comfortable atmosphere that will assist the customer in creating a spa experience at home. This is how Healthy Place will create a niche for itself in the business market and become a huge competitor for spas. The store will have and display an variety of Guided imagery, which is a technique used by many for stress management and coping. These guided images will be available for customers to use and purchase for at home therapy. Healthy Place mission statement is to provide the highest quality of products and services for at home relaxation therapy with our diversified array of products, tools, and techniques in order for the customer to achieve a healthy balance of mind, spirit, and body. Our mission is to create a worldwide standard network of project management coaches focused on improving the performance of project managers worldwide. Our products will: 1. Promote the value of project management coaching. 2. Provide guidelines for the best practices of project management coaching. 3. Ensure the highest quality of project management coaches through an independent certification credential. 4. Define the technological platform needed to support effective project management coaching. 5. Connect credentialed coaches to project managers and organizations seeking project mangaement performance improvements. 6. Ultimately, our aspiration is to become the world’s leading membership association for project management coaching Organization Vision “A vision statement presents the firm’s strategic intent that focuses the energies and resources of the company on achieving a desirable future. The vision of Healthy Place is to provide the best products, tools, and techniques available in an attempt to satisfy the customer’s needs and wants in a comfortable, relaxing, and discrete atmosphere. The future vision the author has for the company is a vision that employees will be proud. This will be achieved by the company supporting and giving back to the community. By doing all the above Healthy Place will eventually become a company that is embodied with values and principles. “Values are standards which we strive to achieve. Values are practical habits that enable us as individuals to live, be successful and achieve happiness”. One can think of values as the standards that companies set and strive to achieve. Healthy Place values will help the company to achieve what is stated in the mission and vision statement. Just like the mission statement describes the type of products and services it does it in a way that will have a direct emphasis on the company’s values in the strategic planning process. Culture, Social Responsibility, and Ethics Healthy Place will have a valueorientated culture that will place direct stress on the many different cultures of its potential customers, incorporating the cultural experiences and needs into the store. The stores will have a multi cultural feel and style, offering customers a wide range of aromatherapies and candles that embrace and represent the different cultures in society. For instance, the company will offer a wide range of scents and spices that are widely used in India to relieve stress and promote a healthy balance. Healthy Place will also place their values of integrity and honesty above everything else when dealing with their customers. Healthy Place must at all times remain socially responsible while fulfilling customers’ needs. Part of being socially responsible is continuing to contribute to society in a way that will continue to sustain it. Healthy Place must ensure that they are at all times socially and environmentally responsible. One way that Healthy Place can show that they are a socially responsible company is to treat customer, employees, and investors fairly and honestly at all times. Healthy Place will implement and initiate programs to assist the community based upon society’s needs. By providing society with programs that give back Healthy Place will create a unique partnership with the community which will demonstrate an expression of the company’s values and respect for others. Organization Strategic Direction Strategic direction can be defined as the plans made or the actions taken by the company in an attempt to assist the company to fulfill its intended mission, purpose and vision. When a company defines its vision, goals, beliefs, values and mission it gives the company a direction to move and grow. This direction will allow everyone including the employees and owner to know what is expected from the company and how to achieve those goals. When Healthy Place defined its mission, vision, and values the company has ultimately has built an action plan that will adhere to the values while striving to achieve its goals and vision. Customer Needs and Competitive Advantage Healthy Place vision for the company is to provide a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere where customers will feel at home while making their purchases. The overall mission of the company is to provide a store with a welcoming atmosphere that is open to the public regardless of race, gender, or religion. Healthy Place will place integrity and honesty above everything else when it comes to the customers. The company’s planning, objectives, and goals will have a huge impact on the company’s strategic direction and how the company will do business over the next few years. Part of the strategic planning process involves the continuous review of the company’s vision and mission statement and to determine whether or not the company has met its goals. The company will utilize a benchmark which is based upon the vision, mission, and value statements to measure and determine the decisions that are made and need to be made. These decisions will determine the overall direction and purpose of the company and its strategic direction. Healthy Place’s mission is to provide the best quality products and services in a way that will allow them to accommodate a diverse range of cultures. The company has a strict set of values which holds integrity and honesty to be the highest and believes that every customer who comes in contact with Healthy Place will have a sense of the pride it holds its employees and suppliers also. Healthy Place values are very important to the company and employees have to support the company’s vision, mission, and values when they come in contact with customers. The company’s strategic direction will be based upon achieve the goals that are clearly defined in the mission and vision statements.
