ADJUSTING TO TERRORISM 1 Adjusting to Terrorism Criminal Justice AdministrationCJA454 US citizens live in a world today Which is obsessed With terrorism This is because of recent actiVities that have taken place on our own soil and ADJUSTING TO TERRORISM 2 the events that have been taking place over the world The attention on terrorism is at an all time high and with daily coverage on the terroristic activities it would appear that we as a society are attempting to adjust to terrorism In this paper an examination will occur concerning a prior situation in relation to terrorism and suggest an administrative change that may make the effort to combat terrorism more effective In recent months the news of aggressive pat downs from airlines have become a target of much debate Adult men and women are putting his and her hands down the pants of airline passengers and even children if he or she refuses to walk through a radioactive full body scanner This is indeed an invasion of privacy and against our Civil Liberties Benjamin Franklin once said Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety Kelley 2009 It feels as if we are doing just that with this new system which was meant to provide the airplane passengers with safety What this new system will do is make it more difficult for the passengers and make the techniques of terrorists to become more sophisticated We are indeed giving up our liberties for a temporary safety A suggestion would be to hire more security guards and intelligence officers ADJUSTING TO TERRORISM 3 to surround the airports and to be aboard our planes We could eliminate some of the unnecessary procedures that we have presently with scanners and invasion of privacy This would allow for more jobs it would create new services and with the new services it would create a new form of revenue to pay for what it would cost through taX dollars It establishes the need for provisions for the business of the airlines to improve because the conditions of travel will improve Many people may be hesitant about these changes but what they will do is allow the airlines along with their added security specialists to provide a better product along with safer travel and this will make travel not only more convenient and easy it will make travel much better The change would be in need of much support as it is a transition that could not take place overnight We have entered an age in our society in which we are obsessed with the THREAT of terrorism We experienced a traumatic even on 911 and we are still dealing with our wounds as they scar over We are so obsessed with preventing the next attack that we have allowed our liberties and our privacy to be lost We willingly have allowed our rights to be violated and immediately we must take back our confidence and take back our rights ADJUSTING TO TERRORISM 4 At first the change would be met with much hesitation We have become immune to being mistreated by our airlines to the point where it is seen as common It has developed into normal behavior and this is the frightening part If we can stop this promptly before it has been ingrained so deep in our culture we can still preserve our sense of liberty and understand how important it is This will be met with trepidation at first but once we can show the public that we are still vigilantly doing all we can to protect them and prevent terrorism they will come around They need to know they are being protected but they also need to understand that if we change the way we have our liberties we will lose them In conclusion the way we have been dealing with the airlines and how they have been treating their passengers is unacceptable They are an industry and an industry is dependent upon their customers and they are mistreating their customers They are doing so in an effort to protect them but what this protection is forcing is an elaborate and more sophisticated means of terrorism to take place The best way to prevent this from taking place is to remain vigilant and protect to the fullest of their ability with an increased in security both in the airports and aboard plans The best and most efficient means to combat sophisticated and dangerous terrorism is not ADJUSTING TO TERRORISM to give in or give up freedom but to become more vigilant more advanced and more sophisticated ADJUSTING TO TERRORISM 6 Reference Kelley Matt 2009The Shifting Tide on Marijuana Legalization News Changeorg Retrieved February 6 2012 from httpcriminaljusticechangeorgblogVieWthe shifting tide on mari juana legalization Peak K J 2010 Justice administration Police courts and corrections management 6th ed Upper Saddle River NJ Pearson Prentice Hall
