Running head RESEARCH PROCESS PAPER PART 2 Research Process Paper Part 2 Constance F LimaGonzalez Res341 July 252011 Debra Bacon RESEARCH PROCESS PAPER PART 2 2 Research Process Paper Part 2 Define Population The research includes a number of Populations resulting in multiple samples The United States citizens are a selected population as they are major consumers of oil and gas commodities The levels of gasoline consumption in which these citizens use may be seen in direct correlation with the increase in market prices Citizens gas consumption levels are a direct re ection of uctuating supply and demand functions Population selection includes past and present prices of the United States and foreign crude oil as they may reveal some similarities and differences in prices over a period Researchers may determine if trends in price increases and decrease within foreign and domestic markets identify with each other at any time Research regarding Natural disasters that occur within the United States will re ect additional populations Unfortunate circumstances of this kind are also said to have an impact on crude oil prices Financial investors of crude oil will also re ect populations associated with the ongoing research efforts In this case crude oil and gas prices may be affected as a direct result of personal interest for those individuals who fund drilling and refinery operations Those organizations involved in the efforts of reducing the United States reliability on crude oil and RESEARCH PROCESS PAPER PART 2 3 gasoline is also included as a population The impact they have on the oil and gas industry may produce results that identify with the increase in market prices Sample Size The sample size is appropriate for this research re ecting multiple elements associated with the selected populations Primarily data obtained for the research will re ect secondary data In this case desired information is almost unlimited as it is conveniently obtainable from various sources Because a sufficient amount of populations is chosen for this research the use of multiple sample processes shall increase the possibilities of successful findings Possible sources of Bias and Error Possible sources of bias and errors affecting data validity and reliability can occur as a result of multiple circumstances Circumstances include the selection of eXpired or out dated data Data may also be obtained from unreliable resources that con ict with each other causing difficulty toward making a sound decision on what information is correct In this case the data may yield inconclusive results in regard to answering the question or solving the identified problem Some level of bias may re ect chosen sources from individuals who have a personal or special interest in the sales of oil and gas In this case information and data will support their personal ideas and opinions regarding the selected research topic Errors will occur if one fails to collect a sufficient amount of information and data to arrive at the correct answer to the problem or concern Systematic sampling is helpful however a poor or limited selection of population elements will create bias in research efforts Collecting irrelevant data will distort the ones ability to arrive at the correct answer Too much information will increase challenges of determining useful information Research data can be collected through varying spectrums of aggregation As an example simultaneous measures of both facetoface consultations and surveys are reputable means of RESEARCH PROCESS PAPER PART 2 4 collecting data Through the collecting of data other attributing factors may also be studied in an effort to comprehend their direct in uence on the contended results Collected research may also present evidence of conditional factors that are inevitable and otherwise critical to the analysis of data Data can also be gathered through a collection of field notes and video recordings of perspective research material or individuals The level of measurement must be presented through the extension of collaborative interaction and reputable analysis by the researchers Decidedly so it is argued that the nature of purpose and autonomy Within research team can in uence the social distribution of data analysis Scribner et al 2008 p 67 It is the responsibility of the researcher to ensure that data management and data analysis adhere to the highest standard of ethical concern Ethical guidance in demographic research can be implemented through the extension of participant rights including the right to remain anonymous and the right to Withdraw from research The integrity of the researcher Will be carried out through neutrality and objectivity in all operations of data collection and data outputs RESEARCH PROCESS PAPER PART 2 5 References Adilov N amp Samavati H 2009 Pump prices and oil prices A tale of two directions Atlantic Economic Journal 371
