Assignment Electronic Medical Record Speech 1 Electronic Medical Record Speech Assignment Electronic Medical Record Speech Debra Wright Axia College of University of Phoenix HCR 240 February 28 2010 Assignment Electronic Medical Record Speech 2 Hello my name is Debra Wright and I work for MEDISTAT MEDISTAT is a computerized EMR system that will assure your medical staff accuracy and efficiency in regard to patients medical records First let me explain exactly what a medical record is and what information is contained within A patient s medical record provides documentation of the patient s medical history including physician notes medications test results messages as well as other pertinent information relating to the patient s medical history These records used to be kept in a folder that was filed in the physician s office Now let me explain what electronic medical records are Electronic medical records are the same information as medical records files except they are electronic and easier to access quickly The medical staff that has access to these electronic medical records can pull this information up as needed from any computer in the medical facility Your office will realize numerous benefits from the implementation of the electronic medical records system Here are just a few examples of the benefits gained from the electronic medical records system Physicians and nurses as well as other medical staff will not have to spend so much time searching for patients files therefore more focus will be put on spending time addressing the patients medical concerns With a paper filing system there is too much time spent on searching and waiting for medical records This is time that could be spent with the patient Another benefit realized from the electronic medical records system is updated health information Everything pertaining to the patient s medical history such as test results drug allergies as well as any other pertinent medical information is documented directly into that patient s EMR There are fewer margins for errors with an EMR and the quality of patient care is significantly improved due to immediate record access The patient s drug allergies are noted and displayed when the record is accessed prescriptions can be electronically ordered straight from the pharmacy and the system can send an alert when the patient is due to have tests or procedures performed What makes this system really efficient is that more than one user can access the patient s record simultaneously This is particularly beneficial as the nurse can record the patient s vital signs and the physician can access and review the patient s medical record at the same time before he or she provides treatment There has been some concern regarding just how secure electronic medical records are Electronic medical records are considerably more secure than the paper medical file The only members of the medical office staff who will have access to the MEDISTAT system will be staff members responsible for treatment payment processing and anyone directly involved with the patients care The system is monitored regularly to ensure there are no breach of security in regard to the safety and privacy of the patient s information Each member of the medical office staff given access to the MEDISTAT EMR will be issued a password that pertains to the level of access that particular staff member assigned An example of this level of access would be a receptionist who is not granted access to patient s medical information other members of the staff such as medical assistants and nurses are granted access to the patients medical information because they are directly involved with the patients treatment To further ensure patients medical record security we have security measures in place such as firewalls and other security measures We have backup and disaster recovery plans in place which protect the records from loss through water damage fire etc MEDISTAT EMR has 25 years experience in the development of the best EMR in the country and understands the importance of providing you with the best software for your billing needs Medistat guarantees our customers that we will never skimp on EMR quality when it comes to your billing software needs We are constantly conducting research for ways to improve what is already the best EMR out there Medistat will provide your staff with training on how to use the system via online and onsite Medistat will offer both types of training either before or during the complete network installation Your staff can also access an online chat support feature should they have questions that need immediate answers or for any after hours questions or problems Thank you for allowing me the time to speak with you about the exceptional product our company has to offer your facility Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have
