D0 2 Week 4 Read Issue 14 Is There Such a Thing as quotEmerging Adulthoodquot in the Taking Sides text What does the term 39emerging adulthood39 refer to Do you support the concept of 39emerging adulthood39 and should it be considered a developmental stage Explain According to Dr Arnett and his detailed description of a new classification of development emerging adulthood is the development which occurs during the ages of 1825 approximately Arnett suggests this is an quotage of identity exploration an age of instability and age of self focused determination an age of inbetween and an age of possibilitiesquot Of course like any other opinion or theory not everyone agreed with Dr Arnett I believe that what Arnett is describing is 100 accurate for those that it pertains too Let me explain As our society has developed and industrialized we have seen the production and involvement of different age groups change and uctuate to meet the social norms in which our society has generated Therefore there are certain characteristics which can generally be used to describe any one age group in any one scenario I believe that Arnett is describing exactly how the majority of people in this age group feel about their position in life but mind you other individuals might disagree as they have chosen different paths in life whether it be early marriage early parenthood no further education etc So as I stated for the portion of the population which Arnett is speaking too he speaks very suggestively This age is most definitely a challenging confusing exciting and motivated age While persons in their twenties may not have a true direction for the rest of their life this is the time period in which they find it They go in and out of relationships they change jobs they change majors attend another school They see their friends get married settle down start families etc but the majority of this age group is most certainly searching for what it is they want the rest of their lives to be Speaking from personal experience I know that this age 1825 was exactly as Arnett described it It39s the age where you wonder if you39re going to get married where you want to buy a house how much you39ll make when you finally get that degree how many kids you39ll have But most importantly it is about learning a growing and teaching yourself What it is that you want out of life It is the time to make final decisions and the time to discover Who you truly are as a person and Who you want to continue to be I made most of my life39s biggest decisions in this period I decided to further my education I got married I had a child I bought a house and most of all I learned that making decisions that benefit the quality of my life will ensure the quality of my life for years to come
